Responsibilities
- Safely operate commercial trucks with manual transmissions, including tractor-trailers, flatbeds, refrigerated trailers, tankers, roll-off trucks, and dump trucks.
- Plan routes using GPS navigation systems to optimize delivery schedules and ensure timely arrivals.
- Load and unload freight manually or with equipment such as forklifts, ensuring proper handling of hazardous materials and dangerous goods in compliance with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations and hazardous materials regulations.
- Secure cargo properly to prevent shifting or damage during transit, following logistics cargo handling best practices.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles to identify maintenance needs or safety issues in accordance with DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations.
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, delivery records, and compliance documentation as required by FMCSA regulations.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch teams regarding route changes, delivery updates, or safety concerns during route driving.
Requirements
- Valid CDL license with endorsements for operating tractor-trailers, tankers, flatbeds, or refrigerated trailers.
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving, including route driving and freight delivery.
- Familiarity with manual transmission operation and manual handling techniques for cargo loading/unloading.
- Knowledge of FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations, DOT (Department of Transportation) rules, and hazardous materials regulations.
- Ability to operate GPS navigation systems confidently for route planning and adjustments.
- Experience with freight handling equipment such as forklifts or dump trucks is a plus.
- Strong commitment to safety protocols and adherence to all transportation laws governing hazardous goods and dangerous materials.
