Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for animal care and possess the necessary skills to assist veterinarians in providing high-quality medical care to companion animals. This role involves working closely with both the veterinary team and pet owners, ensuring that all animals receive the best possible treatment in a supportive environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and other medical procedures.
- Perform diagnostic tests, including X-rays and laboratory work.
- Administer medications, vaccinations, and treatments as directed by the veterinarian.
- Monitor and record animal vital signs and health status.
- Prepare animals for surgery, including/monitoring/recovering anesthesia.
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation for each patient.
- Provide education to pet owners on proper pet care, nutrition, and preventive health measures.
- Ensure cleanliness and organization of the clinic or hospital environment, including kennels and treatment areas.
- Assist with grooming tasks as needed to maintain the hygiene of animals in care.
Skills
- Proficient in veterinary terminology and animal anatomy knowledge.
- Experience with X-ray procedures and dental terminology is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with animal catheterization techniques and pet grooming practices.
- Strong understanding of kennel management and overall pet care requirements.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with both team members and pet owners.
- A compassionate approach toward animal handling and patient care is essential.
- Walk and stand for at least 10 minutes at a time, multiple times per hour.
- Lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds from floor to waist level or higher, several times a day.
- Lift objects up to 50 pounds to a height of 1 meter or higher and carry them up to 2 meters without assistance.
- Handle, position, and restrain live animals.
- Work in a structured environment with time constraints, make rapid decisions, and ability to forward think.
