A Controller to oversee all accounting operations, payroll, and financial reporting, typically leading a small accounting team (e.g., AP/AR clerks). Key duties include managing month-end close, GAAP compliance (, budget preparation, and providing financial analysis to leadership. Controllers must possess solid communication, technology, analytical and management skills. The role usually requires at least five years of relevant experience and a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance. This is a Monday - Friday position, 40 hours a week.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Experience: 5-10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3-5 years in a supervisory role.
- Skills: Strong knowledge of GAAP, proficiency in accounting software and advanced Excel skills.
- Accuracy of financial statements.
- Timeliness of month-end closing process.
Key Responsibilities
- Accounting Operations: Oversee daily accounting functions, including accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), and general ledger accuracy.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Lead the annual budgeting process and create regular forecasts to monitor company performance.
- Internal Controls & Audit: Establish and maintain internal controls to mitigate risks and coordinate external audit activities.
- Team Leadership: Supervise, train, and mentor accounting staff.
- Tax Compliance: Assure accurate and timely completion of corporate income tax returns and other government filings.
- Working with executive team to guide the organization’s financial decisions
- Communicating regularly with (and often reporting to) the CFO/President
- Assessing current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement and implementing new processes
- Hiring, training and retaining accounting staff - helping them with day-to-day operations
- Management of audit findings.
- Budget to actual variance analysis.
