Maintenance Technician III
Location: Lithia Springs, GA
Shift: 2nd Shift | Monday through Friday | 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM
Pay: $36.00 to $38.00/hour DOE + $0.50 Shift Differential
Overtime and weekends as needed
The Opportunity
Smurfit Westrock is seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician III to support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of our manufacturing equipment and production systems.
This role is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, and improving automated production equipment in a fast paced packaging environment. The ideal candidate is a hands on industrial maintenance professional with experience supporting electrical controls, mechanical systems, conveyors, packaging equipment, hydraulics, pneumatics, and preventive maintenance programs within a manufacturing facility.
How You Will Impact Smurfit Westrock

Troubleshoot and repair electrical and mechanical failures on manufacturing and packaging equipment.

Diagnose and repair motors, drives, bearings, shafts, chains, sprockets, belts, conveyors, and gearboxes.

Troubleshoot electrical control systems including motor starters, relays, contactors, motors, drives, and PLC controlled equipment.

Read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and equipment manuals.

Use electrical meters and testing equipment to identify and resolve equipment issues.

Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

Perform preventive and predictive maintenance activities including lubrication, inspections, filter changes, adjustments, and component replacement.

Adjust and maintain automated production equipment, conveyors, feeders, and packaging machinery.

Rebuild and replace equipment components including gearboxes, air cylinders, valves, and mechanical assemblies.

Troubleshoot machine safety circuits and equipment protection systems.

Perform MIG welding and basic metal fabrication as needed.

Safely operate maintenance shop equipment including drill presses, lathes, grinders, and power tools.

Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, equipment reliability, quality, and productivity.

Provide technical guidance and support to Maintenance Technician I and II team members.

Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
What You Need to Succeed
Required Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.
-
Minimum 5 to 6 years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.

Experience supporting automated production equipment and manufacturing machinery.

Strong electrical troubleshooting experience on manufacturing equipment.

Experience with motor starters, relays, contactors, drives, motors, industrial wiring, and electrical schematics.

Ability to safely use electrical meters and diagnostic equipment.

Mechanical repair experience including bearings, shafts, belts, chains, sprockets, conveyors, motors, and gearboxes.

Experience troubleshooting and repairing hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

Experience performing preventive maintenance on manufacturing equipment.

Ability to read and follow machine manuals, maintenance procedures, and technical documentation.

Ability to supply and maintain personal tools and toolbox.
-
Ability to work overtime, weekends, and respond to equipment issues as needed.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience in corrugated packaging, paper, converting, food and beverage, plastics, building products, or other highly automated manufacturing environments.

Experience supporting large manufacturing facilities with multiple production lines and a wide variety of equipment.

MIG welding and metal fabrication experience.

Experience maintaining conveyors and packaging equipment.

Experience rebuilding gearboxes, cylinders, valves, and mechanical components.
-
Experience with hot glue systems and packaging machinery.
-
Understanding of PLC operation and troubleshooting. PLC programming is not required.

Experience using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
