Ithaca Sanitation

The City of Ithaca, NY is seeking qualified applicants for the role of
Working Supervisor - Sanitation with the Department of Public Works –

Streets and Facilities Division!

Position Description: The work involves responsibility for supervising and participating in
municipal solid waste collection and disposal. The incumbent ensures that sanitation crews are
assigned to collection vehicles and that the work is performed properly and safely. This position
also involves extensive interaction with the general public, including educating the public
regarding the rules and regulations for the placement of garbage, types of containers required,
violation(s) that have occurred and how to correct violations. The incumbent also creates and
maintains records and reports related to the work performed. The work is performed under the
general supervision of a higher level public works employee with considerable leeway allowed for
the exercise of independent judgment in carrying out the details of the work. Does related work
as required.

Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from high school or possession of a high school
equivalency diploma and eight (8) years of full-time paid experience, or its part-time paid
equivalent, in public works activities, such as highway construction or maintenance, parks and
forestry maintenance, water or sewer main construction or maintenance.

Special Requirement: Possession of a valid New York State Class B Commercial Driver
License (CDL) or a valid Commercial Driver License equivalent to a New York State Class B
Commercial Driver License at the time of appointment and maintenance of said license for the
duration of employment.

Residency Requirements: There are no residency requirements for this position.

Salary: $28.09/Hour
