At Saint-Gobain, you'll play a critical role in ensuring the quality and performance of advanced ceramic products used in demanding applications around the world. As a Lab Technician, you will work in a fast-paced laboratory environment supporting manufacturing, quality, and R&D teams through product testing, analysis, and process improvement activities.
The Lab Technician is responsible for monitoring and verifying product quality throughout the manufacturing process, from raw materials through final shipment. This role performs a variety of laboratory tests, analyzes data, maintains quality records, and supports manufacturing and R&D teams to ensure products meet customer specifications.
IS THIS JOB FOR YOU?
- Perform laboratory testing on raw materials, in-process materials, and finished products.
- Conduct physical, chemical, and analytical testing including particle size, hardness, density, surface area, pH, ICP, XRD, FTIR, TGA, and SEM analysis.
- Record, evaluate, and communicate test results to production, quality, and R&D teams.
- Investigate test failures and perform retesting as needed.
- Approve materials and maintain product quality documentation.
- Organize and prioritize daily sample workload.
- Log, track, and maintain testing records and reports.
- Maintain calibration of laboratory instruments and equipment.
- Troubleshoot equipment and coordinate repairs when necessary.
- Monitor inventory and order laboratory supplies.
- Follow all laboratory and plant safety procedures.
- Participate in safety meetings, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Properly handle chemicals, testing materials, and laboratory equipment.
- Report unsafe conditions and support a safe work environment.
- Support special projects, audits, product trials, and new product introductions.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, and R&D teams.
- Train new laboratory personnel as needed.
- Support problem-solving and process improvement efforts throughout the facility.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word.
- Ability to accurately record, analyze, and communicate data.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks.
- Ability to work safely in a manufacturing and laboratory environment.
- 1-3 years of laboratory, quality, technical, manufacturing, or analytical experience.
- Experience with laboratory testing equipment and quality control procedures.
- Knowledge of chemical handling and laboratory safety practices.
- Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Work in both laboratory and manufacturing settings.
- Frequent standing, walking, observation, measurement, and data recording.
- Exposure to dust, chemicals, industrial equipment, and varying temperatures.
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
- Must be flexible to work assigned shifts and overtime as needed.
