PROGRAM: Day Site for Adults Disabilities
POSITION: Direct Support Professional
Independent Opportunities provides interactive and engaging activities and games for our friends to encourage independence and success in their day to day lives. We enjoy movies, games, crafts, picnics and more in a more slow paced and generally low stress environment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or a GED (exceptions may be made by the Administrative Director, if a high school diploma or GED has not been obtained, on a case-by-case basis).
Direct Support Professionals must also complete background checks through the Division of Criminal Investigation, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Department of Family Services, and the DFS Central Registry screening.
Driving is not a requirement for the position but it is preferred. A valid Wyoming Drivers License, a copy of current vehicle liability insurance, and a DMV background check is required for all drivers. All employees who choose to drive are obligated to notify the employer immediately of any driving violations, restrictions placed on his or her license, or any changes in insurance coverage. Direct Support Professionals will also be required to meet the following requirements: current CPR and First Aid training and they may be required to lift 50 pounds or more in the course of their duties.
ACCOUNTABILITY:
The Direct Support Professional will be immediately responsible to the Day Service Coordinator in carrying out all job responsibilities associated with direct care services provided by Independent Opportunities at the day site and while in the community.
Independent Opportunities Direct Support Professionals are temporary at will employees hired and supervised by the Administrator, the Day Service Coordinator, and the Direct Support Supervisor, and have the following principle responsibilities:
● To represent Independent Opportunities in a professional manner at all times.
● Engage in positive, mature, and professional interactions with the participants and other staff.
● Model and promote mature and direct, face to face constructive communications whether they are positive or critical in nature.
● Ensure the health, safety, and well being of the participants in their care.
● Promote independence and freedom of choice with all the participants.
● Receive training on the participant’s individual Plan of Care, and complete all paperwork requirements as required by Independent Opportunities Policies and Procedures before providing services to the participant.
● Asking specific questions pertaining to the care of the participant before the time of services arises.
● Complete additional documentation as required, i.e.: THERAP, GER’s, incident reports, medication logs, progress notes, ect.
● Planning and carrying out activities which will be fun and educational for the participants.
● Treating participants with dignity and respect.
● To cooperate and communicate with providers, case managers, guardians, and other members of the participant’s team.
● Respect the confidentiality of all of the participants and their families.
● To fulfill all training including CPR training, First Aid training, and med training.
● To update the Administration of all changes in work availability, phone numbers, and addresses.
● To attend weekly staff meetings so as to become a valuable and informed member of the staff.
● To follow all of the Policies and Procedures of Independent Opportunities.
● Be knowledgeable of each participant’s individual Plan of Care.
● Discuss any concerns regarding the interactions of staff and participants on a continuous basis and make recommendations to the Day Service Coordinator.
● Review and adhere to all of the Policies and Procedures of Independent Opportunities.
● Help create the monthly calendar with other staff.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $14.00 - $16.00 per hour
