Duties
- Perform thorough dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing, tailored to pediatric patients’ needs.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays) using dental imaging equipment, ensuring accuracy and patient safety.
- Educate children and their families on proper oral hygiene techniques, preventive care, and dietary habits to promote oral health.
- Occasionally assist the dentist during examinations and procedures
- Maintain accurate electronic health records (EHR) by documenting patient assessments, treatment plans, and medical histories in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Follow infection prevention protocols, including aseptic techniques and sterilization of dental equipment, to ensure a safe environment for all.
- Review medical records and coordinate with healthcare providers as needed for comprehensive patient care.
- Manage dental x-ray procedures with precision, adhering to safety standards and radiation exposure guidelines.
- Communicate effectively with patients of all ages, ensuring they feel comfortable and informed throughout their visit.
Qualifications
- Valid state licensure as a Dental Hygienist with specialization or experience in pediatric dentistry preferred.
- Proficiency in dental software systems such as Dentrix or OpenDental for scheduling, documentation, and billing purposes.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, medical terminology, and infection control practices specific to pediatric patients.
- Experience with chairside assisting in a pediatric dental setting is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR/EMR) management systems and medical coding processes.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to educate young patients effectively while maintaining professionalism.
- Knowledge of healthcare infection prevention and control standards, including HIPAA compliance and maintaining patient confidentiality.
- Ability to perform medical assessments such as vital signs monitoring accurately and efficiently.
- Prior experience working in a dental clinic or healthcare environment that emphasizes patient care excellence is preferred.
