Can You Build Something From a Picture?
Seriously.
Someone hands you a Pinterest photo of a bar and says, "We want something like this, but 12 feet long, it needs to break down for transport, survive hundreds of events, and look amazing."
Do you immediately start thinking about how you'd build it?
Perfect. Keep reading.
A Little About Us
Folklore is a Southern California event rental company obsessed with great design and memorable spaces.
We build the pieces that don't exist anywhere else: custom bars, arches, backdrops, cabanas, ceremony structures, pedestals, stages, and plenty of things that start with someone saying, "okay, hear me out…"
Our furniture and décor show up at weddings, corporate events, brand activations, and celebrations across the country. Some pieces come into our collection ready to go. Others, we have to build. That's where you come in.
We're looking for an experienced Craftsman who loves building, problem-solving, and figuring out how to turn an idea into something real.
No assembly line. No building the same cabinet 500 times. And definitely no guarantee that every project comes with a perfect set of drawings.
What You'll Be Building
- Custom bars, backbars, arches, cabanas, backdrops, stages, pedestals, and other one-of-a-kind pieces
- Turning an inspiration photo, sketch, concept, or verbal idea into something that actually works
- Engineering pieces that look incredible but can also survive transportation, installation, breakdown, storage, and hundreds of events
- Repairing furniture and décor that has lived a very eventful life
- Fixing dings, dents, scratches, breaks, and structural damage
- Matching paints, stains, textures, and finishes so repairs disappear
- Refinishing pieces until they look like they never spent Saturday night at a 200-person wedding
- Working with wood and other materials to solve weird, interesting, and occasionally "how are we going to pull this off?" problems
- Making smart adjustments to improve durability, appearance, setup, and transportation
- Checking your finished work to make sure it meets the quality our clients expect
Basically: you make cool stuff, and keep our cool stuff looking cool.
You Might Be Our Person If…
You're the kind of person who can look at something and immediately start figuring out how it was built.
You notice when something is ⅛ inch off. You know the difference between "technically finished" and finished right. You've probably fixed things other people thought were unfixable.
And when someone says, "I don't know if this is possible…" your brain immediately goes: challenge accepted.
What We're Looking For
This is a skilled craftsman position, so hands-on experience matters. You should have:
- Strong woodworking and finishing experience
- Experience building custom pieces from scratch
- Confidence working without step-by-step instructions or formal plans
- Knowledge of woodworking tools, materials, construction methods, stains, paints, and finishes
- Strong attention to detail and pride in the finished product
- The ability to troubleshoot and solve problems independently
- Comfort working on projects with real deadlines
- The ability to move quickly when needed without sending something out the door that isn't up to standard
- A team mentality and willingness to jump in wherever your skills can help
Welding, metalwork, framing, construction, or other fabrication experience? Even better.
We Don't Care Where You Learned It
Okay, we care a little. But we care a whole lot more about what you can build.
Your background might be in custom woodworking, cabinet making, furniture fabrication, finish carpentry, set construction, scenic or theatrical fabrication, boat building, millwork, exhibit fabrication, architectural woodworking, construction, or something completely different that taught you how to build really great things.
If you have a portfolio, photos, or examples of your work, we absolutely want to see them.
One Thing You Should Know… ☀
September and October are our busiest months. Events don't move their dates because a project needs another week, so peak season can mean extended hours, changing priorities, and some serious let's-get-this-done energy.
But if you like variety, enjoy seeing something tangible at the end of your day, and would lose your mind doing the exact same thing every day, you'll fit right in.
