The Educational Technology section of the Alabama State Department of Education (Montgomery) intends to fill one Education Administrator II (Section Head) position.

The Educational Technology Section Head provides statewide leadership for educational technology initiatives that support teaching, learning, and operational effectiveness across Alabama’s local education agencies. This position works collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to implement and support technology systems, virtual learning opportunities, professional learning, and strategic planning designed to strengthen instructional practice and student outcomes.

Duties will include, but will not be limited to the following:

Assist LEAs with the alignment and implementation of high-quality, standards-based instruction using technological resources and programs sponsored by the Alabama State Department of Education, including but not limited to ACCESS Virtual Learning, ALEX, and Alabama Technology in Motion.
Oversee the development, implementation, revision, and support of the state technology plan, including technology survey data, to ensure maximum LEA efficiency and productivity.
Evaluate and align current SEA instructional tools, supports, and programs to ensure districts have current and effective teaching and learning resources for grades K–12.
Facilitate the expansion and continuous improvement of statewide K–12 virtual learning opportunities.
Provide LEA Technology Coordinators and building-level administrators with ongoing communication, technical assistance, professional learning, resources, data, and reporting support.
Oversee budgets, contracts, purchases, memoranda of agreement, and property inventory for assigned programs.
Review, evaluate, and lead EdTech statewide initiatives like ACCESS Virtual Learning, Alabama Technology in Motion, Alabama Learning Exchange, Alabama Joint Purchasing Program, and E-rate.
Supervise and monitor assigned personnel through appropriate appraisal processes, records management, and supervisory documentation.
Provide communication and technical assistance to stakeholders within ALSDE and external educational support agencies.
Stay current on educational research, emerging technologies, and professional learning opportunities to better support LEAs.
Lead needs-assessment and action-planning processes to support section and Office of Student Learning goals.

The applicant must have a thorough knowledge and understanding of the following:

Educational technology leadership, instructional support, or related program coordination.
K–12 instructional technology systems, virtual learning, data systems, and state/federal reporting requirements
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, support continuous improvement, and lead strategic initiatives
Proven fiscal responsibility as evidenced by identifying needs, prioritizing funding, and managing complex budgets
Data to guide decision-making, including technology surveys, program evaluation, and reporting
Effective collaboration with diverse stakeholders, including LEA leaders, school personnel, and agency partners.
Design and delivery of high-quality professional learning for teachers, administrators, and/or technology coordinators
Virtual learning, digital resource implementation, and professional learning design
Technology planning, cybersecurity, data privacy, and emerging technologies including responsible AI in education

Education and Experience:

Must meet the minimum requirements as noted on the State Personnel Department Job Announcement for Education Administrator II.
Alabama Professional Educator Certificate
A minimum of a master’s degree and advanced coursework from an accredited college or university in an approved subject-matter or education specialist area
A minimum of five years of successful experience as an administrator at the school, district, or state level
Experience leading K–12 educational technology initiatives at the district, state, or regional level
District- or state-level experience in instructional technology, digital learning, or innovation
Experience working with cross-functional stakeholders, such as district leaders, school administrators, vendors, and agency partners
Experience managing grants, contracts, E-rate, and/or other education technology funding streams
