Since 1955, PhysLab (Physicians Laboratory Services) has provided reliable laboratory services to eastern Nebraska and western Iowa and currently operates two laboratory locations in Omaha and Lincoln with over 165 employees. We take pride in our employees and our work and are looking to expand our team by adding a Clinical Processing Technician to our lab in Omaha!
Position Summary: The Clinical Processing Technician is responsible for proper handling of all specimens received for laboratory testing. Includes functions such as labeling, sorting, pouring, and delivery. Input data from requisitions to computer using an alpha and ten-key numeric keyboard. Serve as a problem-solver for specimen processing, working with the computer and clients to identify a solution.
Hours: 5:00pm - 10:00pm
Essential Job Functions
- Receive, sort, pour off, and distribute specimens to the appropriate department(s) for analysis.
- Ensures specimens are labeled properly and the correct specimen has been submitted for the requested laboratory test by comparing specimen label to accompanying requisition.
- Handle specimens and reagents according to the established laboratory procedures to obtain most accurate results.
- Ensures proper handling of specimens and disposal of contaminated material according to prescribed laboratory procedures.
- Coordinates with courier services to ensure accurate and timely transportation of specimens.
- Change orders due to additions or deletions as directed by clients or other laboratory personnel in order to maintain accurately updated worksheets and current list of outstanding test results.
- Provide accurate verbal and/or written communication to physicians and laboratory staff on the proper ordering and requirements of laboratory tests.
- Enter data from incoming requisitions to computer accurately.
- Transcribe requests for specific tests from requisitions to computers for generation of worksheets.
- Transcribe patient demography data from requisitions to computer for aid in analysis of data and follow-up billing.
- All other tasks assigned by the Laboratory Supervisor.
Preferred Talents
- Proficient telephone skills.
- Must be proficient in alpha and 10-key.
- Excellent attention to detail and good visual acuity.
Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Courses in biology or related life sciences and medical terminology are helpful.
