TITLE: Middle School Music Teacher

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s Degree in Music, Music Education, Drama, Theatre Arts, or related field
-
Must possess a valid Colorado Licensure with appropriate endorsement

Satisfactory completion of criminal background check
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
-
Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students and administration.

Instruct through lectures, discussions, demonstrations and other appropriate methods for the subject area.

Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments to evaluate students' progress.
-
Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
-
Confer with other staff members to plan and schedule lessons promoting learning for all students, including students with individual education plans, using approved curricula.

Confer with parents or guardians, other teachers, counselors, and administrators in order to resolve students' behavioral and academic needs.
-
Enforce all administration policies and rules governing students.
-
Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom they are responsible.

Guide and counsel students with adjustment and/or academic problems, or special academic interests.

Excellent skills in oral and written communication

Skills in leadership, interpersonal relations, organization, prioritization, problem solving and conflict management, assessment and evaluation.

Ability to work with students, staff, administration, and parents.

Perform other tasks or duties as assigned by the Superintendent or Principal
Teaching & Instruction
-
Teach choir classes spanning middle and high school levels, providing instruction in vocal technique, music theory, sight-reading, ensemble performance, and music literacy.
-
Teach middle school and high school drama classes, instructing students in acting, character development, theatrical production, and performance skills.
-
Develop and implement curriculum aligned with state and national standards for music and the arts.
-
Assess student progress through formative and summative assessments, grading, and progress reports.
-
Maintain high expectations for student participation, preparation, and behavior.
Choir Program Management
-
Direct and produce multiple choir performances annually, including:
-
Christmas concert (winter)
-
Veterans Day performance
-
National anthem performances at school and community events
-
Graduation ceremony
-
Spring concert
-
Manage auditions, music selection, rehearsal planning, and performance logistics.
-
Coordinate travel for choir competitions, honor events, and all-state auditions.
-
Plan and execute the annual spring trip on the west slope for choral competition.
-
Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and performance participation.
Drama Program Management
-
Direct and produce a fall play and spring musical for middle and high school students.
-
Oversee auditions, casting, and student role assignments.
-
Coordinate and manage choreography, music, costumes, and sets.
-
Coordinate set design, construction, and technical elements with tech staff.
-
Plan and execute rehearsals, tech rehearsals, and performance schedules.
-
Ensure all safety protocols and backstage procedures are followed.
Leadership & Collaboration
-
Build and maintain a positive, inclusive performing arts culture emphasizing teamwork, respect, and excellence.
-
Recruit and train student leaders (section leaders, student directors, etc.).
-
Work collaboratively with the tech teacher, other staff, parent volunteers, and booster club to support program goals.

Communicate regularly with families about rehearsal schedules, performance dates, expectations, and student progress.

Coordinate fundraising and community engagement activities to support the performing arts program.
-
Attend and participate in school and district professional development as required.
Program Development & Organization
-
Develop annual performance calendars and rehearsal schedules.
-
Budget for music, costumes, sets, and program materials.
-
Maintain inventory of choir robes, scripts, sets, and other program assets.
-
Organize parent volunteer teams for costumes, hair/makeup, concessions, and tech support.
-
Work alongside the Performing Arts Booster Club to support programs.
-
Recruit students and promote the choir and drama programs within the school and community.
