American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level 3 Trauma, Certified Chest Pain and Stroke Center hospital in Shelby, NC, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience and active NC or compact RN licensure.

32-bed Medical/Surgical unit at a 241-licensed-bed, Level 3 Trauma, Certified Chest Pain and Stroke Center hospital

Patient population includes stroke, respiratory illnesses (flu, pneumonia, COVID), renal failure, peritoneal dialysis, and wound care cases

Standard RN-to-patient ratio is 1:5–6, with surge ratios up to 1:7–8

12-hour night shifts, 1900–0700, 36 hours per week

Every other weekend rotation required
-
Low census call is possible; nights may be called back up to 3:00 AM
-
Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays

Floating required within Region 3 facilities (Cleveland, Kings Mountain, Lincoln, and Central Division including CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH) per regional needs — do not apply if not agreeable to floating

Virtual nursing system (VNO) with 10 cameras supports staff with med witnessing, patient monitoring, and admissions/discharge tasks

Scheduling cycle runs every 6 weeks

Active NC or compact RN license required

Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required

Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year

Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation, non-titrating cardiac drips (e.g., Cardizem, Amiodarone), wound care, drain/tube management, PIV starts, and central line management

Epic EMR experience

Candidate's permanent address must be located more than 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted

At least 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

Support staff includes CNAs (ADLs, mobility, feeding), charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, respiratory therapy (24/7), hospitalist (24/7), and intensivist (24/7); telemetry monitoring techs are also available

No HUC on the unit

Orientation includes NEO plus 2 days of departmental training

A clinical interview with the unit manager is required as part of the selection process

Candidates who have previously worked a permanent position at any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible
