AKER by MAAX is seeking a dependable, quality-focused Roller Operator to support our bathware manufacturing operation in Martinsburg, West Virginia.
Provide a final, quality-focused consolidation pass on wet fiberglass/resin laminate, using trained visual and tactile judgment to eliminate entrapped air, wet out dry fibers, work critical details, confirm reinforcement coverage, and contain defects before the unit cures.
After resin and fiberglass are applied and initially rolled, this role focuses on the areas most likely to create structural or cosmetic failures-corners, radii, edges, transitions, reinforcement zones, drain areas, and other model-specific details. Corrections made while the laminate is still workable reduce later repair, delamination, voids, and scrap.
Schedule
- Monday through Friday, 5:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.
- Occasional Saturday work based on production needs
- Onsite in Martinsburg, West Virginia
- No travel required
What You’ll Do
Final-Pass Inspection and Consolidation
- Review the model, laminate pattern, critical reinforcement zones, visual standards, and current defect alerts before beginning the final pass.
- Inspect wet laminate systematically for air pockets, bubbles, bridging, dry glass, resin-rich or resin-starved areas, wrinkles, contamination, displaced reinforcement, exposed fibers, thin coverage, or missed details.
- Use the correct roller type, angle, pressure, sequence, and overlap to consolidate laminate without disturbing the finished surface or displacing reinforcement.
- Work corners, radii, flanges, edges, transitions, drain areas, ledges, and other hard-to-reach or high-stress features to the approved standard.
- Confirm that reinforcement pieces, inserts, blocks, or model-specific materials are present, correctly located, and adequately integrated.
Correction, Containment, and Tool Control
- Coordinate promptly with the application operator or Back Line Roller when additional resin, fiberglass, reinforcement, or rework is needed.
- Identify conditions that cannot be corrected within the process window; stop, tag, or hold the unit and notify the lead or quality contact.
- Avoid overworking the laminate, damaging the AcrylX-facing layer, contaminating the unit, or creating uneven buildup.
- Clean or exchange rollers at the required frequency so cured resin, loose fibers, or damaged tools do not create defects.
Quality Records, Coaching, and Safe Work Practices
- Complete required in-process checks, defect codes, audit marks, samples, or production records.
- Support first-piece, changeover, new-employee, and recurring-defect checks as assigned.
- Provide respectful technique feedback to production rollers and share recurring defect patterns with the team lead.
- Maintain ventilation position, clean work practices, chemical handling, waste segregation, and spill-reporting expectations.
What We’re Looking For
- Ability to follow standardized work instructions, safety requirements, production schedules, and quality specifications.
- Strong attention to surface finish, coating coverage, color, thickness, and visible defects.
- Ability to learn and consistently repeat controlled spray distance, angle, overlap, travel speed, and model-specific spray sequences.
- Basic math and measurement skills for material usage, ratios, timers, equipment settings, and thickness checks.
- Ability to read labels, safety data sheets, lot codes, production travelers, and quality standards.
- Dependable attendance and willingness to work the assigned schedule, occasional overtime, and schedule changes based on production needs.
- Ability to work safely and effectively in a team-oriented, paced manufacturing environment.
- High school diploma or GED preferred; equivalent manufacturing experience may be considered.
Physical and Work Environment Requirements

- Standing: Prolonged standing at molds or fixtures throughout the shift.
- Repetitive motion: Highly repetitive rolling, gripping, wrist rotation, forearm motion, pushing, and pulling.
- Reach / posture: Frequent forward and lateral reaching across large units, bending, twisting, and working around curved geometry; occasional kneeling or crouching.
- Force / handling: Sustained light-to-moderate hand and arm force; handling of rollers, reinforcement, and supplies. Lift and carry materials, tools, or parts weighing up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally; use team or mechanical assistance for heavier or awkward loads.
- Sensory judgment: Near vision, depth perception, color/contrast observation, and tactile awareness sufficient to identify wet-laminate irregularities.
- Concentration: Continuous attention to detail while working within a time-sensitive resin/cure window and paced line environment
