About the Position
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Equine Veterinary Technician to join our team caring for performance racehorses.
This is a hands-on position working directly with racehorses and our veterinarian to provide exceptional medical care, support performance and soundness, and ensure the health and well-being of each horse.
Responsibilities
● Assist the veterinarian with routine examinations and emergency calls
● Safely handle and restrain racehorses during examinations and treatments
● Assist with lameness and soundness evaluations
● Administer medications and treatments as directed by the veterinarian
● Obtain and monitor vital signs and report changes in condition
● Assist with diagnostic procedures, laboratory work, and sample collection
● Prepare medications, supplies, and equipment
● Assist with wound care, bandaging, injections, and other veterinary procedures
● Monitor horses before and after treatments
● Maintain accurate medical and treatment records
● Assist with race-day and training-related veterinary needs
● Maintain and restock veterinary supplies and equipment
● Communicate effectively with veterinarians, trainers, owners, and barn staff
● Assist with emergency and after-hours veterinary care when needed
● Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment
● Follow all safety, biosecurity, and veterinary protocols
Qualifications
● Previous experience working with horses preferred
● Veterinary technician, veterinary assistant, or equine medical experience preferred
● Strong knowledge of horse behavior and safe horse handling
● Comfortable working around athletic, young, and occasionally difficult horses
● Ability to work independently and as part of a team
● Strong communication and organizational skills
● Dependable, motivated, and willing to work in a fast-paced environment
● Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
● Flexibility for early mornings, evenings, weekends, race days, and emergencies
● Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
● Veterinary Technician certification/license is preferred but not required depending on experience
