Import/Customs Regulatory Attorney (Remote / In-House PT to FT Engagement)

Latitude is assisting a global retail client seeking an experienced Import/Customs Regulatory Attorney to provide strategic legal guidance on U.S. customs and trade regulatory matters, practical guidance on tariffs, trade remedies, and advise on duty optimization strategies. This role will help the business navigate risk, cost, and operational considerations while partnering across teams to influence key decisions and outcomes.
Successful candidates will excel in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and bring strong business judgment, a compliance focus with a proactive approach, and be able to step in and hit the ground running on a contract basis.
Basic Requirements for the Import/Customs Attorney:
- 7+ years of experience in customs and international trade law
- Significant experience advising on tariffs, AD/CVD matters, and duty mitigation strategies
- Strong knowledge of classification, valuation, country of origin, free trade agreements, and tariff application
- Experience counseling on duty mitigation and recovery strategies (e.g., tariff engineering, protests)
- Experience advising on trade remedies, including antidumping and countervailing duties
- Proven ability to serve as a trusted advisor to senior business leaders
- Experience working cross-functionally with supply chain, sourcing, finance, tax, compliance, and government affairs teams
- Experience engaging with U.S. trade agencies (CBP, Department of Commerce, ITC)
- Experience managing regulatory inquiries, audits, investigations, and enforcement matters
- Strong business judgment with the ability to balance legal risk, financial impact, and operational considerations
- Experience managing outside counsel and external advisors
- Customs Broker License strongly preferred
- J.D. from an accredited law school
- Admitted to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction; eligible for Minnesota bar admission
- Outstanding professional references
Position Details for the Import/Customs Attorney:
- Type of role: Engagement (Contract)
- Schedule: Part-time to full-time based on business needs
- Location: Fully Remote
Compensation:
Pay: The annualized pay for this position ranges from $165,000 to $190,000 when calculated on a full-time basis. Pay for contract engagements is based on multiple factors including but not limited to work experience, qualifications, credentials, location, market supply/demand, and the candidate’s preference (each candidate’s pay rate affects the client bill rate which can affect the candidate’s competitiveness for the position).
Benefits: In addition to pay, all Latitude attorneys and other legal professionals working on contract engagements receive complimentary professional liability insurance coverage for work or acts or omissions provided within the scope of a Latitude-authorized engagement. All Latitude employees (including those on contract engagements) are also eligible for full benefits when working 20+ hours per week, including group medical, dental, and vision insurance, and complimentary group life, LTD and AD&D insurance. A qualified 401k plan is also available. Benefits-eligible Latitude Attorneys also receive a CLE and Professional Expense stipend.
