Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY) is a parent involvement, school readiness program that helps parents prepare their three-, four-, and five-year-old children for success in school. The parent is provided with a set of carefully developed curriculum and materials designed to strengthen their child’s cognitive, early literacy, social/emotional, and physical development skills.
Position Summary/Objective:
Visit participating parents in their homes to instruct them in using the HIPPY educational materials.
Essential Functions: (Duties and Responsibilities)
- Executes the HIPPY curriculum with their HIPPY practice child in the assigned caseload.
- Makes weekly visits and make – up visits if necessary to participating families for the purpose of role – playing activity packets.
- Participates in planning and execution of group meetings, which may include role–playing the subsequent week’s activity packet and the provision of an enrichment activity.
- Participates in weekly in–service training and other staff development activities as scheduled.
- Inform HIPPY Manager of child/family progress and familial issues or concerns on a routine basis, or as they arise.
- Participates in all HIPPY-sponsored activities.
- Notify supervisor immediately of safety concerns.
- Assists the Manager in maintaining an efficient record-keeping system of program operations and participating families.
- Participate in Agency activities as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED Preferred.
- Some knowledge or experience with HIPPY curriculum is desirable.
Training Requirements:
- HIPPY USA required training.
- Weekly in – service training.
Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as strong organizational skills.
- Must have demonstrated skills working in a Microsoft Office Suite environment and be able to use the Agency software within one month of hire.
- Must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Must be sensitive to the needs of the low-income community, demonstrate culturally competent skills, including an understanding of the impact of poverty on families.
- Must be highly organized, accountable, and able to work independently.
- Must be able to establish rapport with staff and families and empower them by building on their strengths.
- Must be able to work in a collaborative, creative, problem solving environment with major emphasis on program outcomes and family support.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) required.
Licenses/Certificates/Screenings:
- Must have a valid Florida Driver’s License.
- Must have reliable transportation for work-related travel, including nights and out of town.
- Must be insurable under Step Up Suncoast's organizational policies.
- Pre-employment drug screening required.
- Must pass a Level II criminal background check.

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms.

Work environment:
- Work site will include a variety of settings based on work responsibilities including a normal office setting, client home settings, and other settings as needed to perform work responsibilities.
Expected hours of work:
- Hours of work and days are typically Monday through Friday 8 am to 5 pm. The employee may be called upon outside these hours to complete home visits or attend other functions of the position or agency as needed.
Travel:
- Local travel to client homes and other agency meetings and training sessions. Regional and national HIPPY conferences and other meetings may be held outside the local area and require overnight stays.

- 403b plan - After one year of service, Step Up Suncoast contributes 8% of your gross wages to a retirement account. Employee deferrals are not required to be eligible for the 8% company contribution. Employee deferrals can start immediately upon hire. Employees can designate all or part of their elective deferrals as Roth contributions (which are included in gross income) rather than traditional, pre-tax elective contributions
- Vacation - begins to accrue immediately upon hire at approximately 8 hours per month. Time accrued increases with the number of years of service.
