IMPORTANT — WEEKEND AVAILABILITY REQUIRED
Please read this before applying: this position requires regular availability BOTH Saturday and Sunday.
Weekends are a normal part of the workweek for this position. They are not an occasional or rotating requirement.
We completely understand that everyone needs time off, and occasional Saturdays or Sundays can be requested in advance for vacations, family events, appointments, etc.
However, if you cannot regularly work both Saturdays and Sundays, please do not apply. This includes applicants who are only available every other weekend or are looking for a primarily Monday–Friday schedule.
We want to be upfront about this before either of us invests time in the interview process.
About Us
All Dogs Unleashed Boise is a growing dog training and boarding facility dedicated to helping dogs and their owners build better relationships through professional training.
We're looking for a dependable, hardworking person to join our team in a hybrid Dog Trainer / Kennel Technician role.
No professional dog training experience is required. We will train the right person.
What matters more to us is your work ethic, reliability, ability to learn, comfort handling dogs of different sizes and temperaments, and willingness to work as part of a team.
About the Position
This is a hands-on position that combines professional dog training with kennel and facility responsibilities.
You'll start by learning our training methods, dog-handling procedures, safety standards, and daily operations while working alongside experienced team members.
As you develop your skills, you'll take on more responsibility training dogs independently and eventually working directly with customers during training returns.
This position will generally range from 20–40 hours per week.
The exact mix of training and kennel hours will depend on business needs and your experience level. When additional trainer hours aren't available, there may be opportunities to pick up kennel-tech hours.
As our training volume grows and you demonstrate that you're capable of handling more dogs independently, additional trainer hours and earning opportunities can become available.
What You'll Be Doing
As a Dog Trainer / Kennel Technician, responsibilities may include:
- Training dogs using All Dogs Unleashed training methods and standards
- Working with dogs of different breeds, sizes, ages, and temperaments
- Learning proper leash handling, obedience techniques, e-collar use, and dog safety procedures
- Monitoring each dog's training progress and communicating concerns to the team
- Conducting multiple structured training sessions throughout the day
- Assisting experienced trainers with customer returns and eventually conducting returns independently
- Communicating professionally with customers about their dog's training and progress
- Feeding, watering, walking, and caring for dogs staying at the facility
- Safely moving dogs between kennels, training areas, and outdoor areas
- Cleaning and sanitizing kennels, floors, training areas, and common spaces
- Monitoring dogs for behavioral, health, or safety concerns
- Following feeding, medication, and care instructions accurately
- Helping with general facility responsibilities when needed
- Maintaining accurate communication with other team members regarding the dogs in our care
This is a physical, hands-on job. You will be on your feet, cleaning, walking, bending, lifting, handling dogs, and moving throughout the facility for much of your shift.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who is:
- Available to regularly work Saturdays AND Sundays
- Reliable and consistently shows up when scheduled
- Comfortable working hands-on with dogs
- Confident enough to safely handle dogs of different sizes and energy levels
- Willing to learn our specific training methods
- Able to follow instructions and established safety procedures
- Detail-oriented, especially when following feeding, medication, and care instructions
- Comfortable working independently once properly trained
- Able to stay calm and make good decisions when working with difficult or high-energy dogs
- Willing to clean — kennel work is a real part of this position
- Able to communicate professionally with customers and coworkers
- Coachable and receptive to feedback
- Interested in growing into a professional dog trainer
Previous dog training, kennel, veterinary, daycare, boarding, animal-care, or customer-service experience is helpful, but not required.
We care much more about finding the right person who is dependable, comfortable around dogs, and willing to learn.
Compensation & Growth
Starting pay: $14.00/hour
This position also offers additional earning opportunities as you progress through training.
Once you're qualified to independently conduct customer training returns, you may become eligible for:
- Commission opportunities
- Performance incentives
- Tips
- Additional training hours
- Increased responsibilities and advancement opportunities
Our goal is to develop the right person into a capable professional dog trainer, not simply hire someone to fill kennel shifts.
The more you learn, the more responsibility you're capable of handling, and the more training volume we have, the more opportunity there is to grow within the position.
Schedule
Typical shifts may include:
- 4-hour shifts
- 6-hour shifts
- 8-hour shifts
- Day shifts
- Weekend shifts
- Some holidays
Saturday and Sunday availability is required.
Again, occasional weekend time off can absolutely be requested in advance. However, regular weekend availability is a core requirement of this particular position.
If you're unable or unwilling to regularly work weekends, this will not be the right position for you.
What We Provide
- Paid, hands-on training
- No professional dog-training experience required
- Opportunity to learn professional dog training
- Commission and incentive opportunities as you progress
- Opportunity for additional hours as the business grows
- Potential advancement within the company
- Hands-on experience working with a wide variety of dogs
- A fast-paced environment where no two days are exactly the same
Physical Requirements
Because this position involves directly handling and caring for dogs, applicants must be able to perform the essential physical duties of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, including:
- Standing and walking for extended periods
- Bending, kneeling, and moving throughout the facility
- Safely handling dogs of various sizes and strength levels
- Performing routine cleaning and sanitation duties
- Working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Performing the physical tasks necessary to safely care for and control dogs
Equal Opportunity Employer
All Dogs Unleashed is an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to providing equal employment opportunities and maintaining a professional and respectful workplace.
Before applying, please make sure you are comfortable with all three of the following:
- You can regularly work both Saturdays and Sundays.
- You are comfortable working hands-on with dogs of different sizes and temperaments.
- You understand that this is a hybrid position — dog training AND kennel/facility work are both part of the job.
If those three things work for you, we'd love to hear from you.
