Senior Python Software Engineer – Quant Investment Strategies (QIS)
Position Overview We are seeking a Senior Python Software Engineer to join a high-performing Quant Investment Strategies (QIS) technology team responsible for modernizing and consolidating front-office trading platforms. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on designing and building scalable Python applications, APIs, and services that support structured trading businesses.
You will partner directly with senior traders, Managing Directors, and quantitative technology teams to migrate critical front-office functionality onto a next-generation platform. This role requires someone who enjoys solving complex technical problems, understands distributed systems, and can proactively troubleshoot production environments.
This is NOT a scripting or automation role. We are looking for engineers who build enterprise-grade software systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications using Python.
- Build and enhance RESTful APIs and service-oriented applications.
- Partner closely with senior traders, quantitative developers, and business stakeholders to understand existing front-office workflows and translate them into modern technology solutions.
- Migrate legacy structured trading applications onto a new strategic platform while maintaining and enhancing the underlying framework.
- Participate in the consolidation of multiple trading applications into a unified Quant Investment Strategies (QIS) platform.
- Analyze application logs, investigate production issues, identify root causes, and drive timely resolution.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to improve platform stability, scalability, and performance.
- Contribute to architectural decisions and help define best practices for new services and platform components.
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code following software engineering best practices.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of professional Python software development experience.
- Strong experience building backend applications and distributed systems (not scripting or automation).
- Experience designing and developing REST APIs and service-oriented architectures.
- Strong understanding of API integrations and complex service interactions.
- Experience designing scalable backend services and reusable application frameworks.
- Excellent debugging, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to review logs, investigate production issues, and proactively resolve system problems.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work directly with front-office business users and senior stakeholders.
- Experience working in Agile development environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with trading systems, electronic trading platforms, or capital markets applications.
- Experience supporting front-office technology teams.
- Knowledge of Quant Investment Strategies (QIS), structured products, derivatives, or custom basket platforms.
- Prior experience at Bank of America supporting trading technology is highly desirable.
- React or Dash experience for developing internal user interfaces.
- Experience working with distributed services and event-driven architectures.
Nice to Have
- React.js or Dash for internal UI development.
- Financial markets experience, particularly structured products or quantitative trading.
- Experience modernizing or migrating legacy applications.
- Exposure to Bloomberg integrations or financial market data platforms.
What You'll Work On Structured Trading Platform Modernization
- Partner with senior structured traders and Managing Directors to migrate existing front-office applications onto a newly developed strategic platform.
- Understand business functionality, redesign application architecture, and maintain the underlying platform framework.
Quant Investment Strategies (QIS) Platform Consolidation
- Consolidate a Custom Baskets platform into an enterprise QIS application.
- Build new services and APIs while retiring redundant applications to create a unified strategic platform used to publish products through channels such as Bloomberg.
Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is a senior backend Python engineer who enjoys building large-scale systems rather than writing scripts. You are comfortable working directly with trading desks, designing APIs, solving complex production issues, and contributing to strategic platform modernization initiatives. Experience within front-office trading technology or capital markets will make you especially successful in this role.
