POSITION SUMMARY
The Connecticut Muslim Chaplaincy seeks a dedicated and compassionate Muslim Chaplain to serve the spiritual, religious, and pastoral needs of Muslim students on campus, while fostering interfaith engagement with the broader university community. The Chaplain will lead congregational worship, provide one-on-one spiritual counseling, teach Islamic educational programming, and serve as a visible, trusted resource for students navigating both religious and personal challenges.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Excellent problem-solving, interpersonal, oral, and written communication, and organizational skills
- Demonstrated experience planning and implementing programming for Islamic leadership development
- Ability to perform the requirements of formal religious services and to respond to spiritual needs of the community
- Expertise and knowledge of interfaith spiritual care in the university setting and ability to collaborate with individuals of diverse beliefs
- Professional experience serving religious communities (campus, mosque, or comparable setting)
- Advanced degree/certification in Islamic sciences
- At least two references from Islamic community leaders
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide religious and spiritual guidance to students, responding to questions with knowledge and sensitivity
- Offer judgment-free, one-on-one sessions for students navigating personal, spiritual, or academic difficulties
- Hold regular office hours open to both Muslim and non-Muslim students, with a virtual option available
- Develop and nurture interpersonal connections with students
- Lead all congregational prayers on campus when present
- Design and lead weekly Islamic classes, halaqas, or lectures for students
- Be present at MSA events and other religious programming on campus
Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
