JOB St. Louis County Government Department of Transportation and Public Works is looking for individuals interested in becoming a Maintenance Driver II. These positions will report to an assigned District and lead a crew on assignments performing skilled roadway maintenance work including heavy equipment operation. Examples of assigned crews include on grass cutting, tree trimming, concrete, asphalt and other specialty roadway maintenance crews.
The typical work hours are Monday - Friday 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. The Sweeping Crew position work hours will be Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. The typical starting salary will be $23.50 per hour. This position will require mandatory 12 hour snow shifts and will receive a $6 per hour increase for snow removal. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Operate heavy equipment, vehicles and machinery requiring a Commercial Drivers License in maintenance activities.
Perform general roadway or grounds maintenance and sign manufacturing, installation and service on a specialized crew.
Repair and replace asphalt roadways and surfaces.
Maintain, repair or install concrete structures or surfaces.
Perform snow removal.
Care for and clean designated indoor and outdoor areas.
Provide care and propagation for trees, shrubs, turf and plants.
Some positions lead lower level workers operating heavy equipment.
Perform administrative tasks associated with work completion.
Perform other duties as required or assigned. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Pre-Employment Testing - all candidates (including County employees currently not working in a CDL position) must undergo a drug screen after a conditional offer. Employment is contingent upon negative test results. Mandatory Ongoing Testing - in compliance with federal regulations, employees with a Commercial Driver's License are subject to random, post-accident, reasonable-suspicion and return to duty testing.
SELECTION AND APPOINTMENT: A selection committee will evaluate the qualifications of each applicant which will include recentness and appropriateness of the applicant's education and experience, answers to the supplemental questions, results of employment references investigated and any other appropriate information available.
The selection committee will admit to the interview only those persons who possess the most job related qualifications and may establish admittance criteria beyond the minimum qualifications stated above. The interview will comprise 100% of the applicant's earned grade. A candidate must earn a qualifying grade of 70 or more on the interview to be eligible for appointment. After initial interviews with the selected candidates are conducted, an email will be sent to the address on file with instructions on how to complete and submit a Conviction Questionnaire. Candidates have 3 days to complete the required questionnaire.
The five top ranking candidates, based on the final grade, will be certified to the Department Director/Appointing Authority who will make the final decision.
All applicants conditionally offered a merit position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Screening will be performed by a reputable clinical laboratory. The cost of screening will be covered by the County.
