HICAP Volunteer Coordinator
Job Summary:
Central Coast Commission for Senior Citizens is seeking a highly motivated Volunteer Coordinator. Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP) provides free, unbiased Medicare counseling services throughout Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties utilizing HICAP Volunteer Counselors. The Volunteer Coordinator plays a critical role in recruiting, training, recognizing and maintaining communication with HICAP Volunteer Counselors. This position reports directly to the HICAP Program Manager. Cover front desk and phone assistance as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Develop and maintain volunteer recruitment plan to maximize volunteer opportunities and expand the volunteer service area. Work with other senior-related and volunteer organizations to increase volunteer base.
2. Provide volunteer recruitment workshops to appropriate organizations and senior providers. Identify new community groups and sites for educational and/or volunteer recruitment presentations.
3. Assist with HICAP volunteer recruitment activities. Track efficacy of volunteer recruitment activities and make adjustments as necessary.
4. Screen potential volunteers to ensure there are no conflicts of interest. Recommend volunteer for HICAP Counselor training, registration and advanced training in coordination with the Program Manager.
5. Maintain contact with site personnel; develop new sites as needed. Perform annual counseling site assessments to ensure adherence to site agreements.
6. Assist with training to include preparing materials and logging completed training hours. Assist Program Manager in the development of volunteer assignments.
7. Organize on-going Counselor training in coordination with Program Manager to provided up to date information on HICAP and Medicare related issues.
8. Recognize and thank volunteers throughout the year including organizing HICAP volunteer recognition events in coordination with the Program Manager.
9. Assists with intake referrals and counseling services as needed.
10. Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills:
1. Effective oral, written and interpersonal communication.
2. Effective public speaking, telephone communication and utilization of social media.
3. Effective time management; ability to prioritize tasks and work independently.
4. Competent in Microsoft Office and Excel.
Qualifications:
1. Minimum of two years’ experience working directly with volunteers, seniors, people with disabilities, and/or community groups.
2. Knowledge of local communities and social services available to seniors.
3. Bilingual in Spanish is desirable.
4. Clear criminal background and Live Scan.
5. Ability to travel throughout San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties. Ability to work on Saturdays and Sundays as needed.
6. Ability to complete the HICAP Counselor training program and obtain CDA Counselor registration within three months of the start date of employment.

Pay: Up to $25.00 per hour
