NuPAGE Communities (NuPAGE) is a not-for-profit social service agency that provides affordable, high-quality, community-based social services to residents in DuPage County. NuPAGE serves under-resourced residents through individual counseling services, partners with other community agencies and schools to provide mental health groups for adolescents, and provides crisis intervention services in conjunction with area police departments.
The Police Social Worker (PSW) will provide social service assistance to citizens in the community who are in crisis or in need. The PSW will act as a liaison between community members and various resources and community groups at the local, county, state, and/or federal levels. The position provides crisis intervention, conflict resolution, short-term counseling, case management, community outreach, and youth violence prevention programming. The position works closely with police officers and administration to assist with non-crime related situations including, but not limited to mental health, domestic violence, substance use, home and health care, housing-related issues, and family or neighbor disputes. The PSW will also provide violence prevention and mental health promotional programs to middle and high school-aged youth in the area.
Must have strong desire to work in a police department and collaborate with law enforcement to serve the community.

Job Responsibilities
- Independently follows up on referrals from police officers, local schools, hospitals, and the general public, and serves as a consultant to police officers regarding management of cases.
- Assesses client needs for referral to social and mental health agencies, emergency shelters, financial assistance.
- Provides short-term individual and family counseling in situations involving domestic disputes, substance abuse, mental health issues, trauma, grief and loss, life transitions, adolescent and geriatric issues and provides resources and referrals for additional services and long-term assistance.
- Works with other social service providers to coordinate care including local schools, hospitals, Department of Children Family Services (DCFS), Adult Protective Services, and area mental health facilities.
- Maintains case management records and confidential case files.
- Provides professional and clinical consultation to Officers on difficult cases.
- Designs, implements, or arranges training for Officers or partnering agencies in areas of knowledge related to the position.
- Determines best course of action and provides short-term crisis intervention services in emergency situations, such as, but not limited to: domestic violence, child abuse, sexual abuse, suicide, serious or fatal accidents, other cases involving emotional trauma, and assistance with hospitalizing emotionally disturbed or mentally ill persons.
- Conduct home visits with local law enforcement personnel to follow up on mental health and other crisis situations
- Provide “walk-in” services to community residents during designated office hours agreed upon by the police department and NuPAGE
- Conduct suicide and mental health assessments
- Complete all required client documentation, case notes and maintain electronic health records in accordance to agency standards
- Develop and implement positive youth development and violence prevention activities for middle and high-school aged youth in the Addison area
- Support and/or facilitate psychoeducational and skill-building groups, as assigned
- Collect data for grant-related program reports
- Help to write and submit all grant-related program reports in a timely manner;
- Provide reports, as needed, to outside sources such as court, schools, law enforcement
- Adhere to agency policy on confidentiality and HIPAA compliance related to both written and verbal information at all times
- Participate in agency staff trainings, as assigned by supervisor
- Attend weekly supervision meetings

Crisis-Intervention & Follow-Up Job Responsibilities
- Provide on-call coverage for a minimum 3 days per month; On-Call Crisis Coverage Shifts are 24 hours from 6:00 AM to 6:00 AM the following morning
- After receiving Crisis Intervention Training, follow all NuPAGE protocols and procedures regarding crisis intervention
Requirements
- Master’s degree and initial licensure (LSW, LPC) maintained for the duration of employment; preferred
- 2+ years of experience working with high-risk adolescents and families
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to partner effectively and work cooperatively with law enforcement personnel
- Flexible, organized, resourceful
- Able to work well independently at times
- Some knowledge of trauma treatment modalities; preferred
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation with required auto insurance in effect
- Bilingual (Spanish); encouraged
