Position Overview
The Nutrition Director provides strategic leadership, operational oversight, and regulatory compliance for St. Barnabas Senior Services’ Congregate Meals and Home Delivered Meals programs. This position ensures the delivery of high-quality, nutritious, safe, and culturally responsive meal services that support the health and well-being of older adults. The Nutrition Director oversees program operations, staff development, budgeting, reporting, quality assurance, and community partnerships in accordance with the Older Americans Act, City of Los Angeles Department of Aging (LADOA) requirements, and all applicable regulations.
Leadership & Program Management
- Direct and oversee all Congregate Meals and Home Delivered Meals programs.
- Supervise, coach, and develop Nutrition Coordinators, Dining Coordinators, and related staff.
- Develop departmental goals, policies, procedures, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Ensure consistent service delivery and operational excellence across all nutrition sites.
- Collaborate with agency leadership to identify opportunities for program growth and innovation.
Compliance & Quality Assurance
- Ensure compliance with LADOA, Older Americans Act Title III-C requirements, and food safety regulations.
- Maintain department policies, procedures, monitoring systems, and internal controls.
- Conduct site visits, audits, and quality reviews.
- Oversee food safety practices, temperature monitoring, and meal delivery procedures.
- Serve as the primary liaison during monitoring and compliance reviews, and trainings.
Financial & Contract Administration
- Develop and manage program budgets.
- Monitor expenditures, revenues, and program performance.
- Prepare grant applications, contract renewals, and budget proposals.
- Ensure accurate collection, reconciliation, and reporting of program income.
- Maintain records and documentation required by funding agencies.
Program Development & Community Engagement
- Develop nutrition-related educational, recreational, and wellness activities.
- Build relationships with community partners, vendors, and service providers.
- Collaborate across departments to enhance service coordination.
- Promote nutrition services through outreach and community engagement.
Data Management & Reporting
- Monitor program performance metrics and outcomes.
- Analyze operational and participant data to support decision-making, such as program growth and reduction.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for SBSS, LA DOA, and other collaborators as needed.
- Maintain accurate participant records and program documentation.
Staff Development
- Develop and oversee training programs for staff and volunteers.
- Ensure ongoing professional development and compliance training.
- Facilitate departmental meetings and in-service trainings.
- Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and customer service.
- Conduct regularly scheduled site congregate site visits and provide feedback to Dining and Nutrition Coordinator(S)
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Public Health, Food Service Management, Healthcare Administration, or a related field required. Minimum five (5) years of progressively responsible leadership experience in nutrition services, food service management, senior services, healthcare, or community-based programs. Experience managing publicly funded programs preferred. Valid California Food Handler Certification required. Registered Dietitian credential preferred but not required.
Supervisory Responsibility
Directly supervises Nutrition Coordinators, Dining Coordinators, Home Delivery Meals Coordinator, and other nutrition program staff, volunteers, interns, and workforce development trainees. Responsible for hiring, training, performance management, and staff development.

Pay: $80,000.00 per year
