Duties
Planning and Scope Definition: Defining what the project will achieve, outlining specific deliverables, and mapping out a detailed timeline or roadmap. Resource and Team Management: Assembling the project team, assigning clear tasks, and managing workloads so no one is overwhelmed. Budgeting and Cost Control: Estimating costs, allocating budget to different phases, and tracking expenses to prevent overspending. Risk Management: Identifying potential issues early on (like material delays or team shortages) and creating backup plans to keep things on track.
Communication & Stakeholder Management: Serving as the central point of contact. This involves updating clients or upper management on progress and alignment.
Quality Control: Reviewing deliverables before final handoff to make sure they meet the original expectations and quality guidelines.
Skills
1. Education: High School Diploma or GED combined with relevant on-the-job experience. (Note: A Bachelor's degree in business, management, or a specific technical field is highly preferred, but not strictly mandatory if you have strong equivalent work experience).
2. Certifications (Entry-Level): You do not need the highly advanced PMP (Project Management Professional) credential to start. The minimum standard starting certifications are: CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management): Offered by the Project Management Institute (PMI), this requires only a high school diploma and 23 hours of project management education.
Google Project Management Professional Certificate: An accessible, beginner-friendly online program that requires no prior experience or degree.
3. Core Transferable Skills: Even with minimal formal credentials, an entry-level PM must possess:
Basic Proficiency with PM Software: Familiarity with tools like Trello, Asana, Monday.com, or MS Project. Strong Organization: Exceptional time management and scheduling ability.
Clear Communication: The ability to write concise updates, run efficient meetings, and resolve minor team conflicts.
