The Utility Operator is an entry-level position responsible for supporting production operations within the injection molding department. This role focuses on material handling, basic machine support, and maintaining a safe and organized work environment. It is designed as a steppingstone into more technical roles, such as Injection Mold Setter, by building foundational mechanical knowledge and hands-on manufacturing experience.Key Responsibilities
- Provide general support to production and molding operations
- Supply machines with raw materials and remove finished product as needed
- Assist with basic machine operations under direction of setters or technicians
- Perform material handling duties, including staging, moving, and storing materials properly
- Maintain cleanliness of work areas, equipment, and production floor (5S standards)
- Assist with mold changeovers by gathering tools and preparing equipment
- Perform basic visual quality checks and notify team members of any defects
- Support regrind, scrap handling, and material segregation processes
- Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of PPE and reporting hazards
- Assist with inventory organization and proper storage of materials and tooling
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Previous manufacturing or warehouse experience is a plus, but not required
- Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn
- Ability to follow instructions and work in a team environment
- Strong work ethic and reliability
- Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with varying temperatures and noise levels
