This role is ideal for a highly capable Project Accountant to own payroll processing, job costing, and core accounting functions in a fast-paced construction environment. This role partners closely with project management and operations leadership to ensure accurate financial data, disciplined cost control, and timely reporting across multiple projects.
Position Summary
This position is responsible for payroll administration, labor cost allocation, job cost support, and day-to-day accounting activities within a project-based business environment. The ideal candidate brings strong accounting experience, hands-on payroll knowledge, and the ability to manage multiple accounting priorities with accuracy and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities
- Process weekly and bi-weekly payroll for salaried, hourly, and field personnel, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance.
- Maintain payroll records including new hires, terminations, pay changes, benefits, deductions, and garnishments.
- Enter, reconcile, and audit payroll transactions in QuickBooks and Intuit Enterprise Suites; research and resolve discrepancies as needed.
- Allocate labor hours and payroll costs to jobs and cost codes to support accurate job costing and project reporting.
- Review and verify timesheets, job codes, and approvals prior to payroll processing. Support job cost tracking, WIP schedules, and SOV reporting to assist with project financial visibility and revenue tracking.
- Prepare payroll, labor, and project cost reports for internal use.
- Support accounts payable and accounts receivable activities, including invoice coding, transaction entry, reconciliations, and collections follow-up.
- Assist with month-end and year-end close activities, including reconciliations, payroll tax reporting, W-2s, and 1099s.
- Ensure payroll and related accounting activities comply with federal, state, and local requirements.
- Collaborate with accounting, operations, and project teams to support accurate and timely financial reporting.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred.
- 4-5 years of experience in accounting and finance.
- Experience in payroll processing and general accounting required.
- Construction, project-based, or job costing experience strongly preferred.
- QuickBooks proficiency, either Desktop or Intuit Enterprise Suite, desired.
- Familiarity with labor allocation, WIP schedules, and SOV reporting preferred.
- Knowledge of payroll taxes, garnishments, and compliance requirements.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work independently while partnering across departments.
Pay: $70,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
