Purpose of Position:
The Pierce County Public Health Department seeks a contracted WIC Nutritionist or Competent Professional Authority (CPA) to support core clinic operations. This is a contracted, 1099 position for clinic coverage. The primary focus of this contract position is providing direct clinical services, including nutrition assessment, eligibility determination, and education for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) participants. Unlike permanent staff, this contracted role focuses strictly on clinic delivery, with occasional training and professional development opportunities provided only as budget allows and at the discretion of the WIC Director.
Minimum Qualifications:
Credential Option A (Preferred): Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) or ability to pass the CDR examination within 6 months, and Certified Dietitian (CD) status in the State of Wisconsin. Credential Option B (Acceptable): Meets Wisconsin State WIC requirements for a Competent Professional Authority (CPA) (e.g., Bachelor’s degree in nutritional sciences, community nutrition, dietetics, public health nutrition, or a closely related field). Excellent oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to relate well to individuals from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Valid Driver’s License and reliable private transportation for travel to outlying service clinics if required.
Preferred Qualifications:
One or more years of direct experience working within the WIC program (highly preferred). Experience or formal training in utilizing Motivational Interviewing. Experience counseling breastfeeding women. Bilingual (Spanish/English) communication skills.
Hours: Approximately 8 to 24 hours per week. The exact schedule will be determined based on clinic needs; typically, hours will fall between 8:00 and 4:30, Monday-Friday, and remote work may be integrated into the schedule.
