Section II - Description of Duties Performed
General Summary of Purpose of this Position:
Under the supervision of the Food Bank Operations Manager, the Driver & Warehouse Assistant is a 26-hour per week position. The work schedule is Monday through Thursday from 8AM-1PM, and Friday 7AM-1PM, with the possibility of flexibility in the schedule and with the possibility of longer hours depending on the need. The position picks up and delivers donations from food rescue partners to the food bank. The position also assists in the daily warehouse tasks of moving food through stocking and sorting donations. This position works to develop a spirit of cooperation and teamwork with staff and volunteers in a warehouse environment. The position has the responsibility of helping to keep the Food Bank facility and food supply safe and sanitary and maintaining a professional representation of the Food Bank at all times. Additional duties as assigned.
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Driver (45%)
Picks up and delivers food products from local grocery stores, bakeries, restaurants and other food sources as assigned
Operates vehicle in a safe and prudent manner
Acts as liaison between the Food Bank and area food producers/grocers, maintaining a professional representation of the Food Bank at all times
Consults with Food Rescue Coordinator regarding any potential donor/supplier relationship problems
Reports any accident or incident, no matter how minor, to the Operations Manager
Performs daily inspection of vehicles and equipment
Fuels vehicles and checks oil, tires, lights, wipers and general vehicle condition
Cleans vehicle to maintain a professional level of appearance
Assesses potential vehicle or equipment problems and notifies Food Rescue Coordinator of any vehicle deficiencies
2. Warehouse Tasks (35%)
Assists the Warehouse Coordinator in moving food from the warehouse to the store.
Assists with unloading food rescue vehicles and sorting donated product.
Stocks and evaluates donated product.
Accepts food donations from the public and provides donor receipting.
Assists in creating a safe and sanitary working environment.
