Lincoln City has a great opportunity for adults and teens, 15 and older, with the Parks and Recreation Department at the Community Center! Learn to be a Lifeguard and help ensure the safety of patrons of the aquatic facility by preventing and responding to emergencies. They provide for health, safety, and welfare of all pool patrons at all times.
Additional duties include supervising the rock-climbing wall as scheduled. Ongoing training and lifeguard certification provided through the Community Center.

JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS: Must be at least 15 years of age. Must be a strong swimmer. Must be willing to work flexible hours and hours outside the normal work day, and be available to work as scheduled based upon the need of the department. Must have the ability to diligently guard the safety of Community Center patrons. Must have the ability to learn about the Community Center equipment. Must have the ability to learn internal rock climbing techniques and equipment and be able to supervise patrons who participate in the activity. Demonstrated professionalism, communication and customer service skills required.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/LICENSES: American Red Cross Basic Lifeguard Training Certification (unless employee is assigned solely to swimming classes and rock wall monitoring, otherwise within 90 days of employment.) CPR/First Aid/AED certification and the ability to maintain one throughout employment within 90 days of employment Blood Borne Pathogen training required within six months of employment.
DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS: Previous experience in an Aquatic or Recreation environment. Experience providing customer service. Experience with indoor rock climbing, fitness equipment, pool equipment and other program equipment. Experience with services and programs offered by the Community Center. Bilingual (English/Spanish).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF POSITION: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, move, swim, communicate, reach and manipulate objects, tools or controls. The position requires mobility. Duties involve moving materials weighing up to 15 pounds on a regular basis, may infrequently require moving materials weighing up to 40 pounds and on an emergency basis may require moving materials up to 350 pounds out of the water, with assistance. Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 50% of the work period while performing job duties. Must wear uniform and proper footwear while on duty.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Working conditions will vary, depending on assigned programs and will involve considerable exposure to humidity, water, and an environment where chemicals may be present.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervision is not a typical function assigned to this position.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the supervision of Aquatics Coordinator.
PURPOSE OF POSITION: Ensures the safety of patrons of an aquatic facility by preventing and responding to emergencies. Provides for health, safety and welfare of pool patrons. Teaches swimming lessons and supervises rock wall activities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: While in training maintains surveillance of patrons in the pool area and enforces all rules and policies of Community Center to ensure pool rules are being followed and patrons are engaging in safe pool activity under the direct supervision of the Aquatics Coordinator, Lifeguard I or Lifeguard II. Avoids all unnecessary conversation with the public while guarding in order to ensure proper attention is given to the surveillance and safety activities.
Acts immediately and appropriately to secure the safety of patrons in the event of an emergency. Provides emergency care and treatment within the scope of lifeguard training as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.
Presents a professional appearance and attitude at all times, represents the Community Center in a positive manner and maintains a high standard of customer service with community members and visitors of all ages. Examples of this include greeting the public in a warm manner and promptly and properly handling or referring all questions/requests.
Conducts rotations regularly as scheduled, which includes checking the dressing and shower areas, the lobby and gym areas to ensure safety and cleanliness.
Supervises participants engaging in rock climbing activities on the indoor rock climbing wall. This includes assisting customers with harnesses, belts and the belay system as well as monitoring and directing climbers to ensure safety and answering any questions.
Teaches swimming classes and other classes that do not require lifeguard certification as assigned.
Performs janitorial duties for pool area and locker rooms and Community Center weight room, cardio room, gymnasium and storage areas as directed by the Aquatics Coordinator or Lifeguard I or II.
Opens/closes the pools and sets up for daily events.
Notifies appropriate individuals of needed repairs or safety concerns.
Completes records and reports as required.
Develops and maintains positive and productive relationships with colleagues.
Follows all safety rules and procedures for work areas.
Other related duties as assigned.
AUXILIARY JOB FUNCTIONS: Provides assistance to other staff as workload and staffing levels dictate. Maintains proficiency by attending training and meetings, reading materials and meeting with others in areas of responsibility. Maintains pool, lifeguard room, and other work areas in a clean and orderly manner.
