JOB (minimum wage increase to $16.00/hour effective January 1, 2024)
Under the general direction of a Paramedic Mentor and/or Fire Captain, a Fire Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Intern responds to 9-1-1 medical emergencies, hazardous material incidents, rescues, fire incidents and other emergency and non-emergency situations.
Fire EMS Interns may not exceed 528 hours during a calendar year.

The applicant(s) selected will be subject to a criminal history investigation through the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and a thorough background check. The applicant(s) selected will also be given a conditional offer of employment pending the outcome of a medical evaluation and drug test. Any applicant(s) who tests positive for illegal or non-prescribed medically beneficial drugs will not be hired.
City of Santee employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the City requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
