Position Summary
We are a recruiting agency assisting one of our clients in the healthcare and laboratory services industry in hiring a Histotechnologist.
The Histotechnologist will provide advanced technical skills and knowledge in the preparation of tissue specimens used for diagnosis. This role requires experience with complex histology methodologies, laboratory procedures, quality control, troubleshooting, and instrumentation. The ideal candidate should be familiar with laboratory policies and procedures and comfortable working in a structured, safety-focused healthcare laboratory environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with processing specimens, data entry, and quality control documentation.
- Perform manual techniques and operate laboratory instruments according to established protocols.
- Perform embedding and microtomy, including paraffin and frozen sections.
- Select, perform, and monitor staining procedures required for diagnosis.
- Evaluate reagents, stains, and control materials.
- Monitor stained preparations and ensure quality standards are met.
- Mount coverslips on slides and label specimens appropriately.
- Operate and monitor laboratory equipment according to equipment manuals and laboratory policies.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Properly dispose of biohazardous and chemically hazardous materials.
- Maintain inventory and order supplies as needed.
- Prepare solutions and reagents according to standard procedures.
- Follow internal controls, department procedures, and all safety protocols.
- Assist in maintaining the laboratory under accrediting agency guidelines.
- Perform frozen sections and prepare paraffin sections for staining of patient tissue.
- Work with special stains and immunohistochemical stains.
- Participate in quality control, QC analysis, and process improvement activities.
- Provide troubleshooting guidance and take appropriate action to maintain quality.
- Perform advanced and specialized histology techniques as needed.
- May assist with training new staff and supporting competency development.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Biological Science, Health Science, Social Science, or a directly related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of histology experience required.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to provide multiple options for problem resolution.
- Comfortable using Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Ability to handle and safeguard confidential and sensitive information.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety.
Certification Requirements
- HTL certification through ASCP required.
Work Environment
- Standard laboratory environment.
- Use of standard laboratory equipment.
- Must follow all safety, quality control, and compliance procedures.
