Lighthouse Christian School - Facilities Maintenance Technician

Schedule: Monday - Friday (with occasional evenings, weekends, and emergency response as
needed)
Position Summary
The Facilities Maintenance Technician has the responsibility of assisting in keeping the campus safe, clean, functional, and in good condition for the students, faculty, staff, their families, and visitors to Lighthouse Christian School.
The job involves carrying out general building maintenance, conducting preventive maintenance, carrying out minor repairs, providing grounds support, setting up rooms, and carrying out regular facility inspections. The best person for the post should be reliable, have skills in a variety of areas relating to general maintenance, be capable of working on their own, and be committed to keeping both the professional and safe environment of the school.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Building Maintenance
Carry out general repairs and perform regular maintenance in all the buildings and
facilities of the school.
Repair or replace doors, locks, hinges, handles, ceiling tiles, fixtures, shelving, hardware,
and other building components.
Carry out some repair work on the drywall, including painting, patching, and touch-ups.
Carry out simple carpentry and furniture repairs.
Carry out minor plumbing repairs including the replacement of faucets, the replacement
of parts in toilets, and sorting out small leaks.
When it is allowed and suitable, carry out simple electrical maintenance work including
the replacement of bulbs, switches, outlets, fixtures, and batteries.
Make sure that any electrical, plumbing, HVAC, roofing, structural, or other problems
which require a licensed contractor are reported quickly to administration.
Preventive Maintenance
Conduct routine inspections of buildings, classrooms, restrooms, common areas,
mechanical spaces, playgrounds, and exterior areas.
Keep a preventive maintenance schedule for the facility's equipment and building
systems.
Replace HVAC filters and perform basic HVAC maintenance within the employee's
training and authorization.
Monitor facility conditions and report developing problems before they become major
repairs.
Keep a record of the repairs, inspections, service calls, and maintenance requests which
have been completed.
Campus & Grounds
Assist with maintaining sidewalks, entrances, parking areas, playground areas,
landscaping, and other exterior spaces.
Remove debris and address minor safety hazards around the campus.
Assist with weather-related preparation and cleanup when needed.
Coordinate or support outside landscaping, pest control, waste removal, and maintenance
contractors as assigned.
School Operations & Events
Set up and break down tables, chairs, equipment, staging, and other items for school
programs, meetings, worship services, athletic activities, and special events.
Assist with moving furniture, classroom equipment, deliveries, and supplies.
Respond to facility-related requests from faculty and staff in a timely and professional
manner.
Assist with opening, closing, and securing facilities when assigned.
Be available for occasional after-hours facility emergencies or special events.
Safety & Security
Maintain work areas, tools, equipment, and maintenance supplies in a safe and organized
manner.
Immediately report hazardous conditions, damaged equipment, security concerns, water
leaks, electrical issues, or other potential safety problems.
Follow applicable OSHA, fire safety, school safety, and workplace procedures.
Properly store tools, chemicals, ladders, equipment, and maintenance materials away
from students.
Exercise appropriate judgment and professional conduct at all times when working
around children and students.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required.
Previous experience in building maintenance, facilities maintenance, property
maintenance, construction, or a related field preferred.
Working knowledge of general carpentry, plumbing, painting, drywall, mechanical
systems, and basic electrical maintenance.
Ability to safely use common hand tools, power tools, ladders, and maintenance
equipment.
Ability to diagnose routine maintenance problems and determine when professional
contractors are required.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Ability to complete assigned tasks with limited supervision.
Dependable attendance and punctuality.
Professional communication and interpersonal skills.
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation preferred.
Must successfully complete all background checks and other employment screening
required for individuals working in a school environment.
Physical Requirements
The employee must be able to:
Regularly stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, climb, and work from ladders.
Lift and carry approximately 50 pounds independently and heavier objects with
assistance or appropriate equipment.
Work indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures and weather conditions.
Perform physical tasks for extended periods.
Safely operate maintenance tools and equipment.
