ABOUT THE ROLE
Solarponics is hiring a full-time Radiant Service Technician to diagnose and repair radiant heating and HVAC systems. This is a hands-on role for someone who's as comfortable troubleshooting as they are talking with a homeowner about their options. If you enjoy troubleshooting, explaining technical details clearly, and building customer trust, we encourage you to apply.
SUMMARY
The Radiant Service Technician performs diagnostic, repair, and maintenance work on radiant heating and HVAC systems in the field, while also identifying opportunities for system upgrades, service plans, and additional products that benefit the customer. The role blends technical troubleshooting with light consultative sales and reports directly to the Service Manager.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
● Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair radiant heating systems, boilers, pumps, zone valves, controls, solar pool and DHW water heating systems, and HVAC equipment.
● Perform routine maintenance, safety checks, and system tune-ups to keep customer systems running efficiently.
● Accurately identify the root cause of system issues rather than just symptoms, using test equipment, system diagrams, and manufacturer documentation.
● Explain findings, repair options, and pricing to customers clearly and honestly, in a way that builds trust and confidence.
● Identify and present opportunities for system upgrades, replacement equipment, maintenance plans, or additional services when appropriate for the customer's needs.
● Prepare and present repair or replacement estimates on-site
● Complete accurate work orders, service notes, parts usage, and time tracking for every job.
● Maintain a stocked, organized service vehicle and keep tools and diagnostic equipment in good working order.
● Communicate professionally with the Service Coordinator and other service team members regarding job status, parts needs, and scheduling.
● Follow all safety protocols, including proper handling of refrigerants, combustion equipment, and electrical systems.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
● Communicate with the sales team on lead opportunities discovered in the field.
● Participate in ongoing product and manufacturer training.
● Support the production/install department with technical questions on completed jobs, as needed.
● Create a positive customer experience that leads to referrals and positive reviews.
● Additional service-related tasks as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
● Hands-on experience troubleshooting and repairing HVAC and/or radiant/hydronic heating systems.
● Working knowledge of boilers, circulator pumps, zone controls, thermostats, and related hydronic components is a plus, but we will train the right person.
● EPA 608 certification preferred (or willingness to obtain within a defined period).
● Comfortable reading wiring diagrams, system schematics, and manufacturer manuals.
● Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues to customers in plain language.
● Basic sales aptitude — comfortable presenting options and pricing without being pushy.
● Basic computer skills for work orders, scheduling apps, and CRM/service software.
● High school diploma or equivalent; trade school or technical certification a plus.
● Valid state driver's license and clean driving record. Work requires local travel.
● Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings or weekends
● Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs., work in attics/crawlspaces, and be comfortable on ladders and rooftops.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This is a field-based role requiring travel between customer sites throughout the service area. Work is performed in a variety of indoor and outdoor conditions, including attics, crawlspaces, and mechanical rooms. Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs., climb ladders, and work in tight or confined spaces.
