BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of this position is to provide clerical and customer service support on a broad knowledge of police subjects. This is accomplished by extensive training on the Texas penal code, city ordinances and police department policies and working with the public and police officers in taking police reports. This will require frequent contacts with the public via telephone or walk-in as relative to criminal offenses not requiring the physical presence of a police officer. A full range of clerical and typing duties to include a significant amount of data entry and information retrieval is necessary. Individuals will exercise natural and independent judgment in application of standard practices and procedures. Performs related work as required.

Must be able to pass a thorough background investigation. This position is shift work. Shifts are determined by seniority within the department. Pre-employment keyboarding test (typing speed) minimum score is 35.

2 S Assists callers by answering the phone, taking messages, and referring callers to the appropriate department or individual.
3 S Provides clerical support by assisting patrons or customers, providing general or specific information, processing requests for services, researching information, compiling information, maintaining general office records which could include time and attendance, processing the mail, and assisting with other services.
4 S Prepares and distributes department documents by compiling and reviewing information, presenting information for review and approval, completing reports and distributing to appropriate departments or parties.
5 S Maintains department inventories by reviewing items on hand, assisting with purchases, and ordering general supplies.
6 S Supports the work of other clerical support staff, volunteers or interns, by acting as a lead worker, training employees in routine office functions and monitoring progress.
