People: Engages with inmates, healthcare providers, correctional officers, and pharmacy
personnel; requires a high level of professionalism, confidentiality, and interpersonal
communication.
Things: Uses medical tools (blood pressure cuffs, thermometers), medication carts,
electronic health record (EHR) systems, and secure storage equipment for medications.
COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS
Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions, medical terminology, and
medication protocols.
Ability to recognize signs of medical distress or drug reactions and respond
appropriately.
Strong organizational skills for managing inventory and medication records.
Sound judgment and decision-making in routine and emergency situations.
Must remain alert and focused in a high-security and potentially high-stress environment.
VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE PREPARATION
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Education: High school diploma or GED required.
Certification: Must hold a current Registered Medication Aide (RMA) certification issued
by the Virginia Board of Nursing.
Experience: One (1) year of experience in a correctional facility, long-term care facility,
or similar healthcare environment preferred.
Other Requirements: Must successfully pass a criminal background check, drug
screening, and meet facility clearance requirements.
Certification of Nurse Aide or EMS training.
