Director of Field Operations
We are a growing Michigan-based construction contractor seeking a strong Director of Field Operations to lead our field operations. This is a senior leadership role responsible for superintendents, foremen, manpower planning, field productivity, schedule execution, safety, quality, and jobsite accountability.
This is not a desk-only position. We are looking for a field-first leader who can walk jobs, coach superintendents and foremen, improve labor productivity, coordinate manpower, solve field problems, and help ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and profitably.
The Director of Field Operations will report directly to the CEO and work closely with the Director of Project Management, Director of Finance, Project Managers, Scheduler, Yard Manager, Shop Manager, and Estimating Manager.
Responsibilities include:
- Lead and manage superintendents, foremen, and field crews.
- Own field manpower planning and crew allocation.
- Improve labor productivity and jobsite efficiency.
- Review actual labor performance versus budgets and estimates.
- Lead weekly manpower and production planning.
- Coordinate field needs with PMs, scheduler, yard, shop, and purchasing.
- Participate in project startup, turnover, and job-cost reviews.
- Help develop recovery plans for projects with labor or schedule issues.
- Enforce safety, quality, planning, communication, and accountability standards.
- Coach and develop future foremen and superintendents.
Qualifications:
- Significant construction field leadership experience.
- Prior experience as a General Superintendent, Field Operations Manager, Director of Field Operations, Operations Manager, or similar role.
- Strong understanding of manpower planning, labor productivity, field supervision, scheduling, and jobsite execution.
- Ability to lead experienced field personnel and hold teams accountable.
- Ability to work closely with PMs, finance, estimating, yard, shop, and ownership.
- Willingness to spend significant time in the field.
Compensation:
$150,000 to $225,000 per year, based on experience, plus performance-based bonus opportunity.
