Position Summary
Charles A. Tindley Accelerated School is seeking a passionate, knowledgeable, and student-focused Volleyball Coach to lead and develop its volleyball program. The coach is responsible for creating a positive and competitive environment where student-athletes develop their volleyball skills, leadership abilities, teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship while supporting their academic success.
The Volleyball Coach serves as a mentor and role model who demonstrates professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to the overall development of student-athletes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and conduct effective volleyball practices and conditioning sessions.
- Teach volleyball fundamentals, including serving, passing, setting, hitting, blocking, defensive positioning, and game strategies.
- Develop practice plans and game strategies that maximize team and individual performance.
- Foster teamwork, sportsmanship, accountability, leadership, and respect among student-athletes.
- Supervise athletes during practices, competitions, travel, and other team activities.
- Promote player safety by ensuring proper techniques, equipment use, and adherence to safety protocols.
- Monitor student-athlete academic progress and encourage academic excellence.
- Maintain open and professional communication with student-athletes, parents, school administration, and the Athletic Director.
- Maintain team rosters, attendance records, equipment inventories, and other required documentation.
- Coordinate game schedules, transportation, and event logistics with the Athletic Department.
- Attend coaches' meetings, professional development opportunities, and required school athletic events.
- Ensure compliance with all school policies, conference regulations, and applicable IHSAA or governing athletic organization rules.
- Represent Charles A. Tindley Accelerated School with professionalism, integrity, and positive sportsmanship.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or Principal.
QualificationsRequired
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous coaching and/or competitive playing experience in volleyball.
- Ability to motivate, mentor, and develop middle or high school student-athletes.
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel for competitions as required.
- Ability to pass required criminal background checks.
- Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certification (or ability to obtain before the season begins).
Preferred
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Sports Management, Exercise Science, or a related field.
- Previous volleyball coaching experience at the middle school or high school level.
- Knowledge of IHSAA and/or league volleyball rules and regulations.
- Experience working in an urban school environment.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, jump, demonstrate volleyball techniques, and actively supervise practices and competitions for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds of athletic equipment.
- Ability to work in gymnasium settings and occasionally outdoors during team activities.
- Ability to supervise and participate in physically demanding athletic activities.
Working Conditions
- Evening and weekend practices and competitions.
- Indoor gymnasium and athletic facilities.
- Seasonal travel to away competitions.
