Job Title: Heat Treat Operator

Position Summary
We are seeking a dependable Heat Treat Operator to join our manufacturing team in Worcester, MA. In this role, you will operate and monitor controlled furnace processes, prepare and rack metal components, load and unload furnaces, monitor heat-treatment cycles, respond to process alarms, and perform quenching operations. This position is ideal for candidates with experience in heat treatment, metalworking, stamping, or industrial manufacturing who are committed to quality, safety, and precision.
Core Responsibilities
- Set and regulate furnace temperature controls according to setup sheets, specifications, and operating procedures.
- Visually inspect parts for foreign material and verify that parts are ready for processing.
- Position parts on racks and safely load and unload furnaces.
- Monitor temperature and cycle time to ensure parts receive the correct heat-treatment process.
- Respond to furnace and process alarms and clear the condition causing the alarm when appropriate.
- Remove heated parts and quench them in chemical, water, brine, or oil baths according to procedure.
- Operate related equipment, which may include wash units, batch furnaces, temper ovens, endothermic-atmosphere generators, evaporators, hardness testers, and induction-heating equipment.
- Read setup sheets, prints, engineering blueprints, specifications, and routing instructions.
- Perform basic dimensional and quality checks using calipers, micrometers, gauge pins, optical comparators, and hardness-testing equipment.
- Recognize and report errors in routing procedures, prints, drawings, specifications, materials, or process conditions.
- Follow instructions from the group leader or supervisor and work effectively with peers across the shift.
- Follow quality, ISO, operational, environmental, chemical-handling, and safety procedures.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in metalworking or industrial manufacturing.
- Basic math skills.
- Ability to read setup sheets and manufacturing documentation (blueprint reading preferred).
- Ability to safely operate around industrial furnaces, heated metals, and production equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Effective English communication skills (ESL candidates are welcome).
- Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Availability to work permanent 2nd or 3rd shift, including four weeks of second-shift training.
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct experience in heat treatment or metal finishing.
- Experience within bearing, chain, stamping, forging, aerospace, fastener, or metal-component manufacturing.
- 3+ years operating PLC- or CNC-controlled machinery.
- Experience with batch furnaces, temper ovens, wash systems, induction heating, hardness testing, or related equipment.
- Inspection experience using precision measuring instruments.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel preferred).
- Experience with Syteline ERP is a plus.
- Familiarity with ISO standards and quality systems.
