Performs skilled work of average to highly skilled difficulty under general supervision. Maintains accurate records of preventive maintenance, performance assurance and repairs.
Essential Job Functions
- Performs all aspects of Biomedical Engineering with responsibilities for: Inspection, calibration, preventive maintenance, performance assurance, troubleshooting, repairs, overhaul, modification, installations, and documentation on the following equipment, but not limited to.
- Defibrillators, ECG Patient Monitors, Telemetry Units
- Electrocardiographs, Electrosurgical Units, External Pacemakers
- General Misc. Patient Care Equipment, Hypo/Hyperthermia Units, Infant Incubators
- Infant Warmers, Infusion Pumps, Isolated Power Systems, Oxygen Analyzers
- Pressure Transducers, Audiovisual Equipment, Blood Warmers
- Centrifuges, Electric Beds, Fetal Monitors
- Medical Gas Alarms, Intermittent Suction Units, Thermometers
- Lab Equipment, Misc. Dental Equipment, Misc. Environmental Service Equipment
- Nerve Stimulators, Nutrition Pumps, Respiratory Equipment, Vital Signs Monitors
Various other equipment- -as assigned
- Must support other activities related to equipment, such as electrical safety in-services, pre-purchase evaluations, user department training literature review, service contracts, device recalls and parts ordering.
- Must provide support services for equipment at Independence Health System Medcare units.
- Repair other electronic/electrical hospital equipment which includes the following: Nurse call systems, Intercom systems, Paging systems.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Associate Degree in Biomedical/Electrical/Computer/ IT Information Technology.
- OR two (2) year trade school with valid electronic certification with three (3) years of electronic experience.
- Strong leadership ability, good organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, sound judgment.
- Strong ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified by A.A.M.I. (Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation).
License, Certification & Clearances
- Act 34-PA Criminal Record Check from the PA State Police system
- Valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License (if out of state hire current Department of Motor Vehicle record report required and obtain PA Current Driver License within 30 days of hire).
Supervisory Responsibilities
- This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
- Incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need (rotate shifts, standby, on-call, etc.).
- Travel may be expected locally between Independence Health System locations.
