Carmel Stone Imports is a high-end natural stone and tile supplier serving homeowners, designers, architects, and builders throughout the Central Coast and Bay Area. Our showrooms are design-driven environments where clients come for inspiration, guidance, and expert material knowledge.
We are looking for a Design Assistant to support our Carmel location by assisting walk-in clients, maintaining showroom presentation, and ensuring seamless communication between clients and our Design Sales Consultants.
The Role
The Design Sales Assistant is a client-facing, design-focused support role. This position is often the first point of contact for walk-in clients and plays a critical role in helping clients begin their material selection process before handing off project details to a Design Sales Consultant.
This role is ideal for someone with a background in interior design, tile design, or materials who enjoys working with people, creating an inviting showroom environment, and supporting a sales team without carrying direct sales quotas.
Key Responsibilities
Client Assistance & Design Support
- Greet walk-in clients and assist with their initial search for the right stone or tile material
- Help clients navigate tile, slab, and sample options based on style, application, and design goals
- Answer general product questions and provide design-oriented guidance
- Clearly document client needs, preferences, and project details and pass them along to the assigned Design Sales Consultant
- Help facilitate showroom samples from our domestic vendors for all our current boards
- Assist our design consultants in ordering samples of specified materials from domestic vendors
- Assist design consultants with certain communication or job specifics
Showroom Experience & Presentation
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the showroom and sample displays
- Ensure materials, slabs, and tile boards are presented in a polished, design-forward manner
- Assist with merchandising, sample organization, and restocking
Communication & Support
- Answer phones and route inquiries to the appropriate design consultant
- Respond to basic email inquiries and schedule follow-ups as needed
- Support sales consultants with client handoffs, samples, and light administrative tasks
What we are looking for
- Background or education in interior design, tile design, architecture, or a related field
- Understanding of tile layouts, materials, and design applications
- Professional, friendly, and confident client-facing communication skills
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail
Nice to Haves
- Experience in a tile showroom, design studio, or materials library
- Familiarity with natural stone and slab materials
- Experience answering phones and supporting a sales team in a retail or design environment
Schedule
- Part-time ( ideally 10:00 am - 3:00 Pm monday to friday
Compensation
$35.00 per hour
