Job Title: Log Home Restoration Specialist
Pencil Log Pros is seeking people that have painting experience, woodworking skills, caulking, media blasting or other similar constructions skills. This is a remote job working Tuesday - Friday out of the Grand Junction area in locations such as Telluride, Ridgway, Aspen, Vail and other mountainous areas of the Colorado Rockies. We will train the right candidate. The following is what a Restoration Specialist will be asked to do and/or trained for.
Role Overview: The Restoration Specialist is responsible for breathing new life into aging or damaged log structures. This role involves a combination of heavy labor, technical precision, and an artistic eye for wood finishing. You will perform tasks ranging from structural log replacement, media blasting and high-end finishing/staining, ensuring every cabin is protected from the elements and restored to its original beauty.
Key Responsibilities
- Surface Preparation: Operate (glass bead, corn cob, or walnut shells) to remove old stains and failed finishes without damaging the wood.
- Log Repair & Replacement: Identify and surgically remove rotted sections of logs. Perform full-log or to restore structural integrity.
- Weather Sealing: Master the application of to seal gaps between logs, preventing air leaks, moisture intrusion, and insect nesting.
- Staining & Finishing: Apply specialized (e.g., or ) using brushes and airless sprayers for a uniform, durable finish.
- Structural Assessment: Conduct detailed and "tap tests" to locate hidden rot or insect damage in the log courses and corners.
- Preservation Treatments: Apply borate-based wood preservatives to eliminate and prevent wood-boring insects and fungal growth.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: 1 year construction preferred, bonus if timber framing, or high-end exterior restoration is part of your experience.
- Tool Proficiency: Expertise with chainsaws, , grinders, sanders, and media blasting rigs.
- Attention to Detail: Precision in matching wood grain, color, and texture during log repairs.
- Safety Compliance: Familiarity with OSHA standards for working on scaffolding and aerial lifts.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
- Environmental: Must be comfortable working outdoors in variable weather conditions (extreme heat or high-altitude cold). Most job sites are located at elevation subject to mountain conditions, ie cold, windy, thunder storms, and rapidly changing weather.
- Physical Demands: Ability to lift 50+ lbs and stand for long periods.

Certifications Preferred and Very Helpful

Pay: $20.00 - $24.00 per hour
