Education – Graduation from an accredited practical nursing curriculum is required.
Experience – One (1) year relevant experience as a member of a nursing team is preferred.
Licenses & Certification – Incumbent is required to possess current licensure by the State of Oklahoma or National Council of State Boards of Nursing for Practical Nursing and current CPR certification.
Knowledge & Skills –
Knowledge of human body structure, function, illnesses, and/or disease entities and skill sufficient to communicate with nurses, patients, family members and clinic staff.
The purpose of the position is to serve as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the Ambulatory Health Center on a continuing basis performing a variety of duties involving basic and technical procedures for patients seen in the health center.
Work is performed in an ambulatory health care setting. There is common exposure to infectious communicable diseases, potentially hazardous chemicals, and biohazardous materials. Must be aware of all risks involved and be willing to take precautions as requested and required.
Work in the ambulatory health care setting requires considerable walking between exam and treatment rooms and long periods of moving about the work unit. Work requires regular and recurring bending, stooping, stretching, and lifting of patients or similar activities.
Satisfactory job performance will be determined by successful execution of the following:
Under direction of the Medical Staff, administers medications by various routes, i.e., oral, parenteral, intramuscular, etc. from stock supply of drugs, which do not necessitate calculations of fractional doses.
Carries out required diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as vital signs, wound care, EKG’s, necessary in providing adequate health care.
Under the direction of the Medical Staff, makes calls to patients to discuss result management, provides education on disease management and ensures appropriate follow-up care is scheduled, i.e., repeat lab testing, referrals, etc.
Will screen, interview, and observe patient for complaints. Will assist with triage by referring patients to RN or physician for further evaluation. Determines need for immunizations, for routine follow‑up patient appointments in regard to well child assessment, further evaluation and/or treatment for positive laboratory reports, and other areas as needed. Actively participates in patient‑family teaching.
