Position Summary:
This position plays a crucial role in the execution of Garrett Excavating’s projects. The Laborer is responsible for assisting the Site Foreman, Heavy Equipment Operators, and other crew members in all tasks within the preparation, execution, and conclusion of site work. Laborers set the standard for service focused work by continuing to find ways to keep job sites efficient, safe, and clean.
Primary Duties:
- Lead by example on all sites.
- Participate in daily site meetings, project tasks, and all aspects of a project in order to serve our customers.
- Operate within time allotted, tools needed, and order of work.
- Contribute positively to on-schedule and in-budget projects by continuously completing assigned tasks and looking ahead to prepare for the next phase of work.
- Remain responsible for and focused on personal and company growth.
- Maintain and exceed safe work environment requirements set forth by Garrett Excavating and OSHA.
- Ensure all job documentation is done completely/accurately including timesheets, walk-around logs, and site data tracking.
- Participate in all aspects of site work as needed.
- Participate in assigned projects including but not limited to clearing, demolition, sewer taps, retaining walls, foundation prep, concrete prep, and grading.
- Continually adapt to weather conditions to complete jobs year round.
- Find ways to develop competencies such as gaining seat time, attending pre-con meetings, or reading site plans and drawings.
Minimum Qualifications:

- Willingness to read drawings/learn to read drawings and execute accordingly.
- Self-starter.
- 1+ years experience in site development/excavation/dirt work.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Completion of OSHA training/safety requirements
- Experience operating light equipment (hand tools, power tools, chainsaws, post hole diggers, wheelbarrows, line trimmers, etc.).
- Willingness to learn how to operate heavy equipment. (Skid steer, dozers, etc.)
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $19.00 - $23.00 per hour
