PROGRAM GOAL
The goal of the program is to provide high quality, effective, and compassionate services for this county-funded reentry employment program and to reach or exceed contractual outcomes.
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Job Specialist will provide employment services to members of the reentry population, using a cohort model. This full-time position (40 hours/week) will work from an office in Inglewood.
The ideal candidate is passionate about serving justice-involved individuals, has seasoned experience providing employment services to multi-barriered populations, including to the re entry population, and is an experienced workshop facilitator.
Pay Rate: $28.85 to $31.25 per hour, based on background, education, and experience. Employee benefits package will include, but are not limited to, paid time off (e.g., vacation, personal, sick, jury duty) and the employer’s contribution to a healthcare plan of the staff’s choice.
KEY DUTIES WILL INCLUDE
Direct Services
- Develop and update an Individual Employment Plan (IEP) and Career Plan in collaboration with each participant.
- Conduct job (soft) skills workshops using FOLA’s P2P copyrighted curriculum.
- Assist re-entry job seekers with activities to maximize their employment potential, including job-seeking activities, mock interviews, job leads, matching participants to job leads, and assisting with on-line employment applications.
- Link and match clients to vocational training and educational opportunities per their IEPs and Career Plans.
- Work in partnership with America’s Job Center of California staff co-enroll and co-case manager participants, including to access vocational training opportunities and job placements.
- Obtain, and maintain and upload written proof of job placements and job retention.
- Develop, maintain and share a list of job leads.
- Be an enthusiastic and on-going source of support and motivation to participants through one-to-one visits, electronic communication (email, text), and telephonic communication, including during job-seeking and job retention phases.
- Assist with orientations, outreach and recruitment activities.
Data Collection, Data Reporting, and Contract Compliance
- Maintain and update program files (electronically and hard copy) as per contractual requirements and per supervisor’s instructions.
- Provide data and other information as needed for program reports.
- Assist with site visits and audits by funder.
Other Duties
- Maintain a schedule that is consistent with office hours
- Collaborate as necessary with program staff and external third parties to provide quality client services and reach contract goals.
- Participate in weekly supervision, case conferences, meetings and trainings, as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- “Lived” experience with the criminal justice system
- 3 years’ experience providing employment services with multi-barriered populations, including re-entry jobseekers
- 2 years’ experience conducting workshops and/or group sessions
- 2 years’ experience working in partnership with America’s Job Centers of California
- 2 years’ experience with data-entry (e.g., CalJobs) Good English written and spoken skills; strong communication skills
- Associates of Science or Associate of Arts degree; degree/recognized certificate in substance abuse recovery or mental health field
- Computer literate in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Access, email, and internet
- Strong organizational skills; ability to manage or perform multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines
