Position Title: Program Director, Before/After Care Community Education and Recreation (Rec & Ed)

Summary
AAPS Community Education and Recreation’s Extended Day Program offers safe, fun, and enriching environments for Young 5 - 5th grade students during the before and after school hours. The Multi-Site Program Director will have overall responsibility for 1-3 school-based before/after school program sites, including supervision of on-site staff; planning and implementation of enriching and healthy activities; parent communication; program quality improvement; and liaison work with school leadership.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree with coursework that meets Michigan Department of Human Services child care licensing regulations. Experience working as part of a team to retain and support staff, coordinate logistics for programs and handle emergencies. Passion for supporting youth development in child care settings.
Ability to prioritize multiple demands and problem solve effectively. Detail-oriented with strong organizational and follow-through skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Experience using computer software, including word processing, registration, website maintenance and web-based software. Familiar with child development through age 12. Experience training, coaching, and supervising adult staff. Adequate transportation needed to visit program sites and attend meetings.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead team of before/after care site staff, including: assisting with recruitment and hiring of site staff; providing on-site training, monitoring, and support; managing staff absences; and leading weekly site staff meetings.
- Lead site team in preparing and implementing developmentally-appropriate activities that support students’ wellbeing through choices, enrichment, and fun.
- Ensure that each child and all areas of the center are adequately supervised at all times, assigning assistant(s) and other helpers as needed.
- Ensure all child safety protocols are followed, including up-to-date emergency forms, and attention to special circumstances such as health concerns, food allergy plans, and custody issues. Submit injury reports and participate in safety drills.
- Work with EDP Before/After Care administrative team to identify and implement accommodations for students with special needs.
- Ability to work flexible hours and/or be on call from early morning until 6:00 p.m.
- Resolve on-site issues and conflicts that arise, contacting administrative staff as appropriate.
- As part of the EDP administrative team, assist in determining and meeting the needs of EDP sites, including logistical, supply, custodial and facility needs.
- Provide Before/After Care Supervisor with weekly feedback related to staff and programs.
- Assist EDP Before/After Care Team with staff meetings and training events.
- Promptly and professionally respond to site staff and customer concerns via phone, email, or on-site.
- Maintain compliance with all LARA rules and regulations. Adhere to district policies and procedures as well as those outlined in the licensed Before/After School Program Handbook. Ensure completion of any action plan items related to Dept. of Human Services licensing at assigned sites.
- Assist with quality assurance and licensing site visits. Implementing improvements from licensing action plans and identified in parent and staff satisfaction surveys.
- Assist in programming and staffing during district half days.
- As a professional member of the Rec & Ed staff:
- Attend and participate in monthly department and EDP Division meetings and other planning meetings as needed.
- Collaborate with other Rec & Ed divisions and all levels of personnel.
- Participate in professional development opportunities.
- Fulfill other duties as assigned.
