Spectrum Healthcare Resources has an Exciting Opportunity for an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Instructor supporting BAMC Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX.
Job Requirements:

Education: Graduate from a National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) program. Minimum of an associate degree related to the teaching discipline from an accredited institution, meeting CCAF teaching discipline requirements.

Knowledge and Skills:
-
Familiarity with Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Department of Transportation (DOT) curriculum and objectives.
-
Understanding of advanced trauma treatment, including Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) (preferred but not required).
-
Experience with pre-hospital care for Air Force Medical Technicians (4N0X1), trauma scenario development, and limited medication usage in primary care.
-
Certifications:
-
National certification as an EMT, Advanced EMT (AEMT), or Paramedic through NREMT.
-
Maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross.
-
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of EMS field experience as an EMT, AEMT, or Paramedic.
-
Licensure/CEUs: Candidates are responsible for maintaining licensure/certifications and completing required continuing education units (CEUs).

Internship: Complete the CCAF teaching internship within 30 days to 12 months of assignment, including:
-
120 hours of supervised teaching.
-
30 hours each in curriculum development, test administration/review, and academic counseling.
Job Duties:
-
Provide course instruction based on the Government-supplied curriculum for EMT and limited primary care.
-
Teach in diverse environments, including classrooms, labs, and outdoor settings at Fort Sam Houston, Texas.

Deliver didactic and hands-on training in areas such as:
-
Anatomy, physiology, cardiac life support, and sanitation.
-
First aid, shock management, respiratory maintenance, and wound care.
-
Fractures, burns, chemical injuries, and advanced nursing skills.
-
Use approved training aids and materials to enhance learning outcomes.
-
Review and update lesson plans, study guides, tests, and other instructional aids to ensure relevance and accuracy.
-
Maintain current knowledge of EMT standards, practices, and procedures to support instruction quality.

Use the most suitable and effective method of training, i.e.; lectures, performance demonstration or discussions, as prescribed by the lesson plan or material presented to achieve desired lesson objectives or outcomes.
5.1.7. Follow and apply Student Evaluation and Administration Plan (SEAP) to assure processes are applied fairly to students during all course phases.
5.1.8. Prepare records and provide student grade input for inclusion in student training records. Monitor, evaluate and counsel students on academic performance, non-academic behavior and prepare/maintain student records of training in accordance with applicable directives
5.1.9. Instructors will provide recommendations and suggestions, assist in the development of instructional programs for 4N0X1 and EMT training programs to include writing, revising and/or proofreading lesson plans that typically deals with EMT, trauma treatment, primary care, medical evaluation, force protection, CBRN, trauma scenario development, war time skills, infection control, medical records, patient screening, pre and postoperative care, patient comfort and hygiene, patient movement, medication administration, fluid therapy, and nursing synthesis.
5.2. All curriculum or training material must be staffed and approved by the Air Force, Career Field Manager and AMSA’s Department Chair, Program Director, and Senior Enlisted Advisor before implemented. Instructor may be detailed as a subject matter experts (SME) to develop sustainment training products as an individual or panel member.
5.2.1. Secures classroom space and announces upcoming classes. Ensures classroom training equipment is operational and supplies are available.
5.2.2. Ensure quality training is provided to assigned personnel. Instructs new trainers on the fundamentals of curriculum development, instructional techniques, and effective job skills training including initial classroom orientation, and recurring training for trainers in selecting the most appropriate instructional method for the course being taught (lecture, instructional model, hands on experience, etc.).
5.2.3. Review course plans/outlines, and adhere to course schedule to ensure all topics are covered on time. Produce or locate appropriate hand-out material, communicate the objectives of the course material, and ensure courses are evaluated upon completion.
5.2.4. Makes certain that newly assigned trainers understand the fundamentals of establishing learning objectives, developing course outlines and lesson plans, etc.
5.2.5. Participates in in-service refresher training sessions to learn latest processes, procedures, and practices as the course curriculum/POI evolves.
5.2.6. Ensures refresher training methodologies selected will enable incumbent to apply best design and most effective instruction to students in; Basic Life Support (BLS), EMT, and basic and advanced nursing skills.
5.2.7. Maintain and enforce standards of conduct, dress, and personal appearance specifically AFI 36-2903: Dress and Personal Appearance of Air Force Personnel, AETCI 36-2909: Recruiting, Education, Accessions, and Training Standards of Conduct, and AFI 36-2618: The Enlisted Force Structure.

5.2.8. Assigns and conducts orientation and continuing education training sessions for newly assigned instructors. Refresher training may include, but is not limited to, training methods and computer based training.
5.2.9 Instructors will be subject to scheduled and no-notice evaluations. HCW instructors shall maintain a satisfactory or better rating on instructor evaluations.
5.3. Conditions:
5.3.1. Essential requirement: Candidates for EMT Instructor need to be physically fit and able to perform tasks.
5.3.2 Job requires physical capabilities due to some heavy lifting in field environment.
5.3.3 Ability to sit, bend, and stand for extended periods of time.
5.3.4 Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. from ground to waist level.
5.3.5 Ability to coordinate activities closely with others in stressful situations.
5.3.6 Ability to effectively communicate verbal and written English.
5.3.7 Ability to take direction and adapt to changing situations/job duties.
