POSITION SUMMARY
This position supports the work of the YMCA, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Senior Director of Family Services intentionally fosters a cause-centered culture that is welcoming and focused on strengthening children, families, and communities through the delivery of high-quality childcare, youth development, and family support services. This position provides strategic leadership, operational oversight, and staff development for all areas within Family Services while ensuring excellence in program quality, compliance, financial sustainability, and community impact.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- As a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, assist the CEO with implementing the strategic plan, cultivating teamwork, and providing leadership and resources to all departments as needed.
- Lead, manage, and be accountable for all functions of current and future licensed childcare programs (infant through elementary age), youth and family programs, food programs, and child abuse prevention initiatives, ensuring goals are achieved and best practices are maintained.
- Provide direct supervision, accountability, coaching, and professional development for directors, supervisors, staff, and volunteers within areas of responsibility.
- Develop and maintain a positive, mission-driven culture that promotes accountability, teamwork, staff engagement, and exceptional service to children and families.
- Oversee, develop, and control departmental budgets. Review financial performance, analyze trends and forecasts, and implement strategies to maintain a strong fiscal position.
- Lead enrollment, retention, and revenue growth strategies for childcare and family service programs while ensuring financial sustainability and operational effectiveness.
- Develop annual operating goals, objectives, and action plans aligned with the YMCA's strategic priorities. Monitor progress and take appropriate action to ensure desired outcomes are achieved.
- Recruit, hire, train, develop, schedule, and direct personnel and volunteers as needed. Conduct performance evaluations and implement strategies that support staff growth and organizational success.
- Execute strategies that strengthen connections among members, program participants, families, and the YMCA.
- Ensure high-quality, member-focused programs through innovation, evaluation, staff training, and continuous improvement. Regularly assess program effectiveness, community needs, and market opportunities.
- Assure compliance with all applicable state, local, and YMCA regulations, standards, and policies. This includes, but is not limited to, state childcare licensing requirements, CACFP and SFSP food program compliance, Y-USA standards, and Praesidium child abuse prevention and risk management requirements.
- Establish, cultivate, and maintain strategic relationships with community organizations, schools, governmental agencies, corporate partners, and other stakeholders. Represent the YMCA at community meetings, events, and collaborative initiatives as appropriate.
- Utilize data, performance metrics, enrollment trends, staffing indicators, and financial reports to drive decision-making and continuous improvement.
- Exercise discretion and independent judgment in handling confidential and sensitive information.
- Oversee grant opportunities, applications, reporting requirements, and compliance related to childcare, youth development, and family services. Establish and exceed annual funding goals.
- Maintain records and prepare reports necessary for effective management, evaluation, and communication with the CEO, Board of Directors, committees, regulatory agencies, and community partners.
- Ensure a high-quality participant and member experience across all Family Services programs through exceptional service, safe environments, and operational excellence.
- Respond to challenges, opportunities, and emerging needs in a timely, professional, and solution-oriented manner.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in education, social services, recreation or equivalent.
- Experience working with children of different ages and knowledge of the developmental stages and needs of youth required.
- Experience in leadership/supervision required; applicable experience in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency preferred. Previous experience with diverse populations required.
- Ability to direct programs through supervision of staff and volunteers, development and monitoring of budgets, program development, and community service.
- Experience operating in a complex multi-faceted organization. Collaborative leader with a proven record of accomplishment in leading teams and projects that improved business processes and efficiencies.
- Strong organizational skills and effective communication skills to present information, gather feedback, and highlight risks, opportunities, and key business points.
- Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to make presentations, develop authentic and deepened relationships with members and community partners.
- Excellent personal computer skills and experience with standard business software.
- Strong time management and organizational skills, with the ability to meet deadlines, manage multiple tasks and balance shifting priorities while maintaining confidentiality.
- Ability and willingness to work as part of the Executive Leadership Team and demonstrate and lead our core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
- Certifications: CPR/FA, within 30 days of hire.
- Able to sit, stand and bend to perform appropriate tasks.
- Must be able to move at an appropriate pace to respond to emergencies.
- Follow all safety requirements of the Salina Family YMCA.
- May be required to stand for extended periods of time.
- Work in different temperature environments.

The Senior Director of Family Services should increase the participation and retention of membership and programs of the Salina Family YMCA.
