Established in 1978, Plants Unlimited is one of Maine's largest and most respected independent garden centers, serving generations of gardeners from our Midcoast Maine locations. For nearly five decades, we have built our reputation on exceptional plants, knowledgeable staff, and outstanding customer service.
We are seeking an experienced Garden Center Manager / Operations Manager to lead daily operations, supervise staff, and help guide the continued growth of our business.
This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment and has a deep knowledge of plants and the garden center industry.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily garden center operations and staff
- Lead, motivate, schedule, train, and manage employees
- Deliver exceptional customer service and create a positive shopping experience
- Prioritize tasks and solve problems in a dynamic retail environment
- Manage inventory, merchandising, and seasonal displays
- Work closely with ownership on sales goals, purchasing, staffing, and operational planning
- Help identify opportunities to expand sales throughout the year
- Maintain high standards of plant quality, presentation, and customer satisfaction
- Foster a positive workplace culture built on teamwork, accountability, and professionalism
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of management experience in a garden center, nursery, greenhouse, horticultural retail business, or related industry
- Advanced plant knowledge required
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Proven ability to manage people and multiple priorities simultaneously
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities
- Experience with landscape design, garden design, visual merchandising, or seasonal sales planning is highly desirable
- Passion for gardening, plants, and customer service
Compensation & Benefits
- Starting salary approximately $75,000+, commensurate with experience
