Position Overview
New York Child Growth and Development Center (NYCGD) is seeking a responsible, organized, and motivated Assistant Director to support our DYCD COMPASS After-School Program at PS 29Q.
The Assistant Director will work closely with the Program Director to oversee daily after-school operations, supervise program staff, support student safety and engagement, communicate with families and school personnel, and ensure that the program operates smoothly and in accordance with NYCGD and DYCD COMPASS requirements.Program Operations
- Assist the Director with the daily operation of after-school and youth development programs.
- Support program opening, daily schedules, classroom assignments, dismissal procedures, and other operational needs.
- Ensure classrooms and activity spaces are properly staffed, organized, and prepared.
- Monitor daily program activities to ensure schedules and program expectations are followed.
- Help coordinate special events, workshops, field trips, family events, and school-break programs.
- Assist with resolving day-to-day operational issues.
Staff Supervision & Support
- Support the supervision of Group Leaders, Activity Specialists, Teachers, Volunteers, and other program staff.
- Monitor staff attendance, punctuality, schedules, and daily responsibilities.
- Provide staff with clear daily assignments and follow up on task completion.
- Assist with staff onboarding, orientation, training, and ongoing professional development.
- Conduct classroom and program observations and provide constructive feedback.
- Help maintain a positive, professional, and accountable team culture.
Student Safety & Program Quality
- Maintain a safe, structured, welcoming, and engaging environment for all participants.
- Monitor student attendance, transitions, classroom management, and dismissal procedures.
- Support staff with student behavior management and parent concerns.
- Ensure appropriate student supervision at all times.
- Immediately report and document incidents, injuries, safety concerns, or other significant issues.
Family & School Communication
- Maintain professional communication with parents and guardians regarding program schedules, attendance, student concerns, and program updates.
- Assist families with registration and program-related questions.
- Build positive relationships with school administrators, teachers, custodial staff, security staff, and community partners.
- Support the Director in addressing parent concerns and following up on program issues.
Administration & Compliance
- Maintain accurate attendance, enrollment, incident reports, staff records, program documentation, and other required records.
- Assist with enrollment tracking and participant information.
- Support compliance with NYCGD policies and applicable program, school, and regulatory requirements.
- Help prepare documentation for program monitoring, site visits, audits, and inspections.
- Ensure required forms and records are complete, accurate, organized, and submitted on time.
- Assist with collecting program data and preparing internal reports.
Leadership Support
- Serve as a point of contact when the Director is unavailable.
- Communicate important program updates and concerns to the Director in a timely manner.
- Help identify operational problems and recommend practical solutions.
- Support implementation of new systems, procedures, and program initiatives.
- Perform additional administrative and program responsibilities as assigned by the Director.
Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred, particularly in Education, Early Childhood Education, Social Work, Psychology, Youth Development, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Previous experience working in an after-school program, school, childcare center, nonprofit organization, summer camp, or youth development program preferred.
- Previous supervisory, administrative, or program coordination experience strongly preferred.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to supervise staff and provide clear direction.
- Comfortable communicating professionally with parents, school personnel, and community partners.
- Ability to handle multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Basic computer skills, including Google Workspace and/or Microsoft Office.
- Bilingual ability is a plus.
Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
Work Location: In person
